Mighty XX: Buddy Black Interview (mp3)
Buddy Black says we need to keep pluggin' along. He's not going to speculate on changes or time tables. Bullpen and bats are urgent needs. Ledezma and Estes were positive signs for the club. Padres players are frustrated and angry. The Padres can take the sharp criticism they are grown men. Plastic blow up dolls in the clubhouse? Seinfield reference to George doing the opposite of everything he would normally do. Bud Black is going to do the opposite today.

Thanks
For posting this. Seems like Bud is a bit baffled at why the team is not producing.
Hopefully the Padres can turn it around tonight.

That's it.
I’m tired of these prudes. “Naked inflated dolls, oh my! Put some clothes on that vinyl!”
Starting now, we are taking BP with giant floppy dildos, okay?

I wanna like Bud
I really do and in essence, I think I do like him. But when I listen to that interview, I don’t hear a manager. I hear a guy who is still acting like a pitching coach – making sure he stays in tight with his players, blind optimism, very little edge. Not once in that interview did he say “I’m the manager. I’m responsible for what happens on the field” or something remotely close. I don’t want Billy Martin in the clubhouse, but I really question as to whether or not he has the leadership skills to manage a struggling team.

Agreed
I guess that is what I was doing a poor job of trying to say.
He doesn’t seem like he has a plan for fixing the team. Just kind of throwing his hands up in the air and saying “it’s not working. This sucks.” I agree that Bud seems like a very likable guy, just not the buck stops here manager (leader) that we need right now. Maybe he is an non-leader for a reason. Not sure if it the Padres are a Billy Beane style organization where KT is really running the show. Either way, someone needs to take ownership. I guess in the end, the team struggling is not my main concern. I’d just like to know that there is a viable plan to change the course for the better.

Quit it already.
We know Chase Headley is not going to be the Messiah for this season, I don’t think anybody is expecting that. You’d be surprised how quickly expectations have fallen. What we do expect is some who is not Jim Edmonds. Please fix this situation, and quit trying to counter every Headley question with, “Well, he’s not going to be the savior.” WE KNOW! Just get him up here! I want him to get up here, have his “Kooz Time” (like Kooz did) and maybe we’ll win some games out of it.
