A Change is Gonna Come?

Judging by the Portland Beavers game tonight against the Omaha Royals...there will be a change with the Padres roster, but not a number of them. Jody Gerut did not play tonight, which means he's probably on his way to San Diego.

No word yet on Jim Edmonds. But it's probably more telling what is NOT being said about the guy. Tom Krasovic of the U-T asked Harry after the Braves sweep if Edmonds would still be a member of the Padres for this short homestand against the Rockies:

"I'm not going to talk about that," manager Bud Black said, one day after General Manager Kevin Towers, given a chance to endorse Edmonds, declined comment.

With the exception of Clay Hensley (and Gerut), all of the other names that have been rumored as candidates for promotion from Portland were all on the field tonight in Omaha.

Think Chase Headley wants to be in a Padre uniform? The kid was 5 for 5 tonight, including a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI. He's now hitting .304.

Nick Hundley was 2 for 4, with a pair of doubles, a walk and an RBI.

E-Gon went deep for his 3rd HR of the season. He had a 3 for 5 night. His batting average is now .307.

Matt Antonelli still sucks. He went 0 for 5 with a couple of strikeouts. He's now dropped to .188.

While I think dropping Edmonds and promoting Gerut is a step in the right direction, I'm disappointed Chase isn't going to be on that plane with Jody. I hope KT has more up his sleeve than just this.

Edwin Moreno

was moved to AAA Portland. He was the closer for the Missions. I don’t know if that means anything or if he if just taking Estes’ spot.

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

I can't believe he didn't invite Jonny Dub and I

to his Mexican food dinner while he was in town.

He's just rude like that

I would’ve invited you guys. And Jon’s cat.

I was literally in San Diego for five hours.

My Dad and I were visiting my sister who just gave birth to my niece a couple of weeks ago.

I am coming out for a week the second week in September…I’m hoping to hook up with some of you guys then. The Giants and the Dodgers are in town that week. We should be roughly 34 games out by then.

You act surprised.

I’m only going to be there a week, WG. This dance card is filling up fast.

What kind of shampoo do you use on Jonny's hair, jbox?

I’m guessing something strawberry scented?

Enjoy Shampoo and Conditioner

That's disgusting.

I know we like to play around and act goofy here, but try to show some decorum, everyone.

(But please do let us know about the cat, Drama. Plane fares are going up.)

The Chase Headley thing is ridiculous

I’m probably the most conservative Chase Headley guy out there and I’m convinced he belongs in a Padres uniform.

As for Gerut, I paid attention to his usage in spring training and there wasn’t a whole lot of CF time. I’m worried that he’s not going to get the playing time out there that I we all think he deserves. The only counter-argument is that he has played most CF with Portland. I guess I would be okay with a platoon where he plays CF when PMac plays left and moves to left when Hairston plays CF, but then you are almost wasting a roster spot with Huber. He basically becomes pinch hitter #3 behind Clark and Hairston/PMac and the emergency catcher. It seems like you’d be better off with EGon because of his versatility, plus I’m not sure there’s a lot of difference in their hitting ability at this point.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

Big Question

Who’s roster spot does Gerut take? Gotta be Edmonds….Right?

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

I think that's a given

I don't think it's a forgone conclusion

Huber, Hairston, and PKeg are just as worthless

PMac

Is far superior to the other two right now. He is actually hitting pretty decent. Too bad Petco saps his power to such an extreme.

by osbug on May 9, 2008 6:21 AM PDT up reply actions

And he's a fielding liability

And a baserunning liability.
And he’s probably been stealing Heath Bell’s cookies.

There, I said it.

Haha

Scott Olsen is the only reason I know what "subordination" is. And can remember the defintion.

by TheVinylCrocodile on May 9, 2008 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Eh

He isn’t a great fielder, but he isn’t a liability. I don’t know about a basepath liability either.

Did Luke Carlin

play anywhere yesterday? I think he was also supposed to be on the way.

Headley will probably be up by June, I would imagine. I still think they have to wait a bit longer for his arb clock to run out.

I saw the headline, clicked on it thinking it was going to give a preview of a new MicroBrew Garden at PETCO!!!!!!! Meh..
