Smells Like Padres in Here - Thursday Edition
I feel 63% confident that this team will win at least one more game this season, but we may be stuck at 12 wins for awhile.
Sullivan advocates for letting Edmonds limp away. Sort of.
Some "writer" at Fanhouse basically says the same thing about Edmonds, but then screws himself by offering his own uninformed opinion and an Anchorman reference.
I hope they let Estes pitch at some point today, just so we can have someone new to make fun of.
The last thing I wanted to do was link to another story about how good Arizona is, but the included anecdote involving Peavy is worth reading.
Ledezma will go for the loss today against Jo-Jo Reyes. DAY GAME ALERT!!! Game time is an early 10:10am PDT.

"Stay classy, San Diego"
I’m probably showing my cards, but whenever anybody says “Stay Classy” or refers to San Diego as a “Whale’s Vagina” a little bit of rage bubbles in me and makes me want to go to that person’s hometown and urinate on it.

I laugh.
How else can one so quickly declare that they “got nothin.’”
I bet he has the Will Ferrell boxed set.

I'll raise that bet.
He’s got another Anchorman reference posted about 10 hours after that. He just can’t help himself!

Couple of things about Edmonds...
Here’s a 37-year old guy that played in 110 games in ‘06 and 117 games in ‘07. He was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome just last August. He’s had shoulder injuries, foot injuries, etc. His entire career has been based on running into walls, full on dives and basically showing zero regard for his body when going after a ball. My question is this: In Sandy’s haste to stick it to Mike Cameron…did we bother to even give this guy a physical? And if we did, did our medical staff put the same effort into it that our marketing department did on our slogan for the 2008 season? Did we give him a physical over the phone? Did we just text him? “How r u feeling, Jim?”
The other question is what in the hell are we waiting for? Whether Jody Gerut’s Greyhound has made it to Atlanta or not…we still have Hairy/Callix to play CF and P-Keg or Huber for LF. Just get it over with. Have KT give him a call and say this is how it is. I understand why they sat down for a face-to-face with Boomer last season…Boomer deserved that. Nothing against Jim, but there are no ties here with us. Do we really want this guy on the team plane all the way back to San Diego knowing he’s going to get cut 10 minutes after we land? There is enough negativity surrounding the ballclub already. This should have already been handled and I don’t understand the point of waiting a minute longer.
One more thing, osbug….get to work on my “Gey for Gerut” t-shirts and thongs.

You are so impatient
It’s not like we’ve lost 16 of 20 games, alright?

Will Do
I am also working on the “Free the Frequent Friar!” T Shirt.
I don’t see any point in letting Edmonds go yet. He is still playing better CF than Shrek, and not hitting much worse than him. It’s not like we are paying him $18.1mil to hit .170/.279/.264. I suppose putting Crabbe in CF is an option, but then we lose our supersub. I still don’t think they were trying to stick it to Cameron. I wouldn’t have wanted to sign him past two years anyway. There were too many question marks.
I know everyone wants to bring up the prospects and let them grind it out, but the only way I think that would be viable is if we commit to it long term. Which might mean sucking this year AND next year. I see no point in bringing them up and then sending them back down.

I have a rant boiling inside me about Bud Black and Joe Thatcher.
But I’ve lost the energy to write that sort of thing anymore.

Bud Black
and his fucking Queen of the Run Fairies.
I was in class when Thatcher was summoned, but when I saw that we gave up three runs my first thought was: Black wouldn’t actually be dumb enough to use Thatcher in a tie game, right? Must have been one of the other RFs.
And then, to my infinite fury, I checked the box and I see that Thatcher pitched the 7th.
Let’s play make believe for a second.
You have a tie game in the bottom of the 7th. Bases loaded and nobody out. Who would you tab? Would you tab your best groundball pitcher who can potentially keep the ball in the IF and keep the game tied, or at least minimize the damage? Or do you reach deep into that bullpen, find your magic dust, and summon the Queen of the Run Fairies?
We report. You decide.

Oh yeah
Not really complaining. It’s just an an odd mix with Huber, Hairston and Colt…and Ledezma starting.

Combo of day after night and Lefties, I believe.
And Greeney is 2 for 2 with a HR vs. this guy.

Some Khalil Greene
In some universe, somewhere, is 2 for 2 vs. this guy.
My belief in this stat bearing some kind of run-scoring fruit is undermined by the fact that my fantasy team is starting Reyes and benching Greene. I really need strikeouts. GO PADRES FANTASY POINTS!

Not too bad defensively
But the offense is terrible. Basically look for Giles, Adrian, and Kouz to do all of the work. If we are lucky then Hairston and Crabbe come through.

I wonder
If we make a mixtape with a bunch of slow jams on it we can convince Cameron and Bradley to come back. We can tell them how everything will be different this time. We can talk about how we’ve changed and we aren’t the same team anymore. We are lost without them. Then crying a little bit should seal the deal.

What I'm getting at is...
Bradley and Cameron left us for a sugar mama.
We need the Padres to be a sugar mama, not a sugar mama.

Ha. I love it.
This totally reminds of Smoove B from the Onion.
You may be wondering how I plan to win you back in only one night, when there were so many problems between us. As this evening must be the most magical, sensual, and perfect night of your entire life, I will keep the details of it a secret in order to bring your arousal to its highest peak.As a teaser, I will say that a few things will, without a doubt, occur. First, I will compliment you and express sincere regret over what happened between us. I will extend feelings of tenderness and warmth. Then, we will reminisce about the good times that we once shared. Dinner, which will have been carefully prepared over the course of the previous 24 hours, will be served at around 8. During dinner, as well as afterward, we will drink the finest wine from the best wine-producing regions of Australia. Or, if that wine does not meet your exacting standards, I will provide backup wines from the finest wine-producing regions of Chile, France, California, and Germany. There will also be warm appetizers.
