Smells Like Padres in Here - Tuesday Edition

BREAKING NEWS!   We don't steal bases and can't stop other teams from stealing them.

We're #1!!!  Scouts say we have the "one of the slowest and least athletic teams in the majors leagues."  So...TAKE THAT teams that have better records than us!

Callix fulfills a dream.

"We kind of need some of these veteran guys to pick it up here," Towers said.

Estes is ready.  (And, no, Jacque Jones won't be dying in our outfield any time soon.)

Hensley has a setback and Gerut was the PCL player of the week.  I'm thinking we could use a PCL player of the week.

CY goes tonight in ATL against someone named Jair Jurrgens, which sounds alot like a shampoo.  Game time is 4:10pm PDT.

Agree

complete regarding Gerut. I heard Scanlan on Coach and Totino’s show yesterday saying that right now, the team should bring up Gerut, Hundley, and Estes.

Bud needs to start using his backup catcher if he’s going to take a roster spot.

Oh, and at least we didn’t lose yesterday. After a week off from the team and reading through some of the shenanigans that occurred while I was gone, I think I’m ready to reel off a somewhat controversial fan post.

Completely agree on Estes and Gerut

Completely disagree on Hundley. The guy needs to work on his defense and his hitting in AAA, he’s not ready for the big leagues. Also, I think Morton is the ideal because Bard should be out there 6 out of 7 days and Morton isn’t a as much of a prospect as Hundley so the lack of playing time isn’t a big concern. There’s no reason that Bard should get any less starts than your typical healthy, young, major league catcher.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

Gerut

has been pretty solid in Portland. Not sure about Hundley, but he would have to be better than Colt Morton. I still like what Chip Ambres has been doing. I also thinking Myrow would be a nice addition if the Padres can find a spot for him. Maybe throw him in at second.

Gerut is coming up when the Pads get back

according to KT. Actually he all but said it to the two idiots in the am. It sounds like they are seriously considering cutting Edmonds, who doesn’t have “his legs underneath him or the batspeed”. KT also talked about putting Ledezma in for #5 and bringing up Estes. He shot down bringing up Headly at this time. He said the problem with the pen is them being overworked, due to the inability of the starters to go 7 or 8 innings. Don’t know about you, but I never expected them to go past 6 or 7 most of the time.

Venable

is another guy I’d be interested in. He did well in center during Spring Training. He also seemed to be batting fairly well in Portland before he went on the DL. Now that he is back from the DL, I’d like to see how he does. I think he gets overlooked with the whole Antonelli/Headley talk going on.

I agree on Venable

But I think someone here mentioned last week that they are being cautious with his shoulder at the moment, even though he’s off the DL.

No KT discussion about Venable....

but look for major changes in the lineup when they get back from ATL. He said Atlanta is too far from Portland to move guys around quickly. Now, I’m getting excited. maybe.

I don't get how he expected the starters to 7 or 8 innings

Who on the staff fits that profile? Chris Young? Jake routinely hits 90 pitches by the 5th inning on good starts. Greg Maddux could if he were on. Wolf is nursing it a little and doesn’t want to overextend

I was thinking the same thing as he was saying it.

Nobody fits that profile. I hope for 6 good innings these days. That is why we have a 7, 8 and closer, plus other specialists.

Yea we are slow

but all this least atheletic stuff if getting old
i think we have some completely amazing atheletes even if its mostly in our pitching staff

what would be cool is if the padres could somehow use their lack of speed as an advantage and fool a lot of teams into making a mistake… i’m not sure how that would work but it would be great

and it was time to call someone up about 3 weeks ago

and yea that guys name sounds like shampoo

Stupid Stat

The stat where the UT has the Padres 11th in SB % is silly. We were #1 at 100% a couple days ago until Jim Edmonds got caught stealing on a hit and run that Crabbe didn’t execute.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

BTW

For anyone outside of SD who was hoping to watch the series on a real TV, TBS dropped the Braves earlier this year and no longer televises 100+ Braves game each year.

You suck, TBS.

seriously

on another note though, MLB.tv has told me I’m getting a free 2-day trial to their service, with no activation required. Seems like there has got to be some horrible catch to this though…

On one hand that sucks,

On the other hand not so much. I just cancelled my MLB.tv subscription, partially due to endless technical issues on their end, but mostly because I figured out that the Padres lose 75% of the games I watch. Ergo, if I don’t watch the games, they’ll win 75% of the time. TBS is doing me and the Padres a favor!

I hope nobody here is connected…what a funky Spring for SD

First the Padres swoon and now this…will it ever end?

If you can't be a good example, at least serve as a horrible warning...
