Trade with Seattle
San Diego has acquired Cha Seung Baek for Jared Wells.
Good move I'd say by Towers. Can you fill in the Seattle blogs on Wells? Based on his numbers he looks like Triple-A fodder at best.
Baek's an odd duck, sort of your typical slop righty, but he's got some decent movement and can give you 90-100 pitches. Not sure what you'll end up using him for, but he certainly looks more talented than Wells. Chalk up another trade between those headed Spring Training rivals!

Here is the San Diego UT reporting.

We did not see a lot of him with the Padres.
He was hotly rumored as an up and coming starter a year or two ago, then slid into reliever status.
He appeared for us in extras in the recent 18 inning affair, gave up two runs in his first inning of work where he was wild with some walks, was picked up by the offense, and came back out to work a scoreless inning.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
This move makes me happy.
Baek = Cheap, moderately effective righty. Perfect for back-of-the-rotation/long relief/spot starting. If we get into any more 18 inning games we’ll be glad to have him.
I saw Wells pitch a little bit in Portland, nothing to really impress. Pitched later innings, mostly, if I remember right. Organizational fodder.
I’m starting to believe that Bill Bavasi either…
a) wants to get fired.
b) wants to make Brian Sabean look better.
or….
c) wanted to give CSB more playing time.
Either way, he’s not a very good GM.
Agreed
This is a case where the Padres need guys to fill innings and they’ve used up all they can from Portland so they are looking elsewhere. The Mariners need bullpen guys because a couple injuries to the bullpen were crippling earlier this year. Both teams squinted and saw that this deal would solve their problems. Really, all it does is tread water.
I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.
probably C in all truth
It wouldn’t be the first or even second time Bavasi has traded a non-starter off the major league roster somewhere else for less than full value in order to get said person into a more favorable position. Bavasi is an awesome awesome human being; he’s just a bad GM.
Baek = Mariners Flame-out
Wells = Padres Flame-out
Let’s make a deal!

This is all my fault
I posted a question about Baek on DePodesta’s blog back when the Mariners originally designated him, though it didn’t get my name right, a whole bunch of nonsensical letters that OpenId originally assigned from my yahoo account. I think Baek has a good upside, though I agree that we may have just exchanged pawns. KT does have a pretty good record of finding diamonds, so I guess time will tell. I predict that Baek will be getting the ball from Ledezma alot.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair. Douglas Adams
I think if I heard right
on the post-game show, he is pretty damn effective against lefties. It would be nice to have that as an additional weapon out of the bully.
They list Wells at 6'4" - 200 lbs.
That has to be including ear cartilage, with some rocks in his pockets.
