Smells Like Padres in Here - Monday Edition

Adrian GonzalezProfessional Extra  Innings Hitter.  Everyone's gonna remember AG's heroics, but Hairston coming through in the bottom of the ninth like Hairston of last year was nice, too.

Josh Banks is popular.  I really hope Black will show a little more faith in the new bullpen guys after yesterday.

Sullivan makes the case for Adrian to be an All-Star.

Jake will have another MRI on Tuesday.  We need to start a pool for when we see Jake again.  I think its gonna be after the All-Star break.

An interview with Padres groundskeeper, Luke Yoder.

Off day today before the Washington Nationals roll into town tomorrow and get crushed by the well-oiled machine that is the San Diego Padres.  Happy Memorial Day.

Sullivan makes the case for being a dingleberry
You would think Reds manager Dusty Baker should have ordered an intentional walk to Gonzalez in the 18th, even though this would have loaded the bases for Kevin Kouzmanoff, who had homered twice earlier in the ballgame.

I don't even know why the U-T has columnists

They should just put Garfield comics in the column space instead.

Ha!

Yea, I wouldn’t list “competence” as one of their defining attributes. In fact, it seems more apparent than usual this morning as I catch up on my Ducksnorts reading. (NB: If any GLBers haven’t read Geoff Young’s recent analyses “Reshaping the Padres: What have we got?” and “Reshaping the Padres: Let’s make a deal (or three)”, then please do yourselves the favor.)

Ducksnorts

I want what Geoff has been smoking/drinking if he really thinks the Twins would let that deal happen (and it seems to be crux of his whole trading scenario). I guess he’s counting on Towers to slip some roofies to Terry Ryan like he did to Jon Daniels.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it

But Josh Banks is going to start on thursday.

He was a starter in Portland

I figured he’d take Young’s spot, but when he came in relief the first time I was confused. Of course I was confused because why would I ever think the Padres had an off day? That would be crazy. But, behold, today, Memorial Day, in the middle of a homestand, has been deemed an off day (Because it makes so much sense!). So we skip CY’s spot and Banks will fill in the next time we can’t start a guy on regular rest (That would be Saturday).

That's why I was asking if he was available around the 8th inning yesterday.

Hairston's Heroics

Let’s not give him the full thumbs up just yet. Remember, he saved the loss with that solo shot in the ninth, HOWEVER, it would have been a Maddux victory if not for the three unearned runs in the 2nd (or 3rd) after Scott’s fielding gaff in Left Center…

Scarce-ston

The error was all PMac’s fault. Yeah, he didn’t touch the ball, but he shouldn’t have been anywhere near Scott.

Scarce-ston strikes out WAY too much to be in this lineup. Forty-two times already, he doesn’t even play every day.

I thought today was Sunday

"I daydream just like everybody else," he says. "I just do it with my body facing the field, so everybody thinks I'm paying attention."
