Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

The Padres plan to bring up Triple-A pitcher Josh Banks and Double-A catcher Colt Morton before today's game against the Cincinnati Reds, in response to injuries suffered Wednesday by pitcher Chris Young and catcher Josh Bard. The club could be on the verge of adding 1-2 relievers as well.

Banks, 25, was already on the 40-man roster and pitched well for Portland on Monday, allowing one run in six innings. The 6-foot-3 right-hander began the season with Toronto's Triple-A club and is 1-3 with a 6.80 ERA in 41.0 Triple-A innings this season.

Chase Headley yesterday had three hits, including his eighth home run, and is batting .357 this month for Triple-A Portland

shows Jesus Christ is still beating Chase Headley by a wide margin.

Apparently, not everyone is a believer. Yet.

I can get excited about this.

Because of his height....

....he’ll probably think it’s CY.

“Woah! Your face looks totally healed already. Amazing what those plastic surgeons can do these days. Speaking of plastic surgery…Chris, have you seen the pics of Heidi Montag in the new US Weekly? Those look so fake….”

also, Jared Wells

has been called up. Off the active roster are CY, Bardo, and your favorite and mine Justin Germano has been designated for assignment. I’m hoping Portland is in his future…

This is exactly what I expected

Even though it seemed cool to be getting some changes, I figured they would go with guys already on the 40 man roster. Banks and Wells are on the 40 man. Mike Adams replaces Germano who was cut off the 40 man. I’m a little surprised that they didn’t add Clay Hensley, but I’m guessing they don’t want him to push it by joining the major league club. He’s already suffered one setback, no reason to cause another by putting him in games that count. Either that, or they are going to work on returning him to being a starter. I still don’t understand why Headley can’t come up now since they are past the point where the arbitration thing is an issue. I also would like to see Venable up too, just cut Myrow off the 40 man, that guy is dead weight.

Thatcher will be back

They just sent him down because they needed more bodies, he had options and had just pitched a bunch in the last game.

Banks is somewhat interesting

In 2006 he was the Blue Jays #5 prospect according to Baseball America. He dropped to #12 in 2007. He’s a control guy with 90-91 MPH fastball and a good splitter. His drop in status comes from his results in AAA. He suddenly wasn’t able to get as many hitters out. This year hasn’t been much different he’s struggled at times, but I’ve also seen boxscores where he got good results. I assume he’ll take CY’s spot in the rotation while Ledezma takes Peavy’s.
