Worst season ever?

This is it. Jbox told you to get off this ship while you still could and you didn't and now you're sunk with us.

Now, it's just a matter of figuring how we're going to make the best of the worst situation. We know that there isn't a team in the league that shouldn't be able to beat us. We know that anybody showing a modicum of talent on this team will find a way to be injured horrifically. We know that 2008 is a cursed season

Here's how I know. The Padres joined the majors in 1969. The year now is 2008, which is the 39th year. 39 is the product of three and thirteen. Everybody knows that 13 is unlucky and that 3 is a biblical number, therefore we're in the middle of a biblically unlucky year for the Padres.

At this point, I'm rooting for the Padres to get to .400. From there, I will root for them to get to .450. With each milestone, I'll celebrate. I'm at the point now where I expect nothing from this team at all. We are at rock bottom. I know we'll probably manage another 20 wins or so between now and the end of the season. With any kind of luck, I'll see a couple or three of those.

Biblically unlucky

pretty much sums it up precisely. We have got ot be cursed at this point.

GY at Ducksnorts has a post this morning analyzing our potential trading chips. Later this week, he’ll identify some potential targets.

time for crazy trade ideas!

how about we send Kouz back to Cleveland, and take back Barfield and a prospect? i imagine it would be the Indians admitting defeat in a way, but no other place has any want for Barfield and no other team has as much value for Kouz as Cleveland does. and Kouz could DH against lefties for them or take over for Blake at 3rd (who could split time with Hafner at DH).

that is a team in need of a major shakeup. like moving Hafner. we have no place for him, but this could be a move that eventually leads to that and leaves their bases covered (if Kouz can’t start hitting, Blake moves back to 3rd and they find a new DH, which is easier than finding a new 3B).

i know, crazy, but this is how i entertain myself during bad seasons.

isnt barfield not doing good?

so why would we want ANOTHER crappy thing in our lives?

Barfield

Currently hitting .261 for the Buffalo Bisons.

but he didnt make the roster

which makes me a little queasy on the idea of trading kouz, who is dong better than have of our roster at his time(sadly) for Barfield.

Yeah

I don’t see a reason to move Kouz for a prospect. Are we really going to get anything better back for him?

How about this one?

Or, we could alter the Smiths’ “Girlfriend in a coma” to be “Ball team in a coma”

It would be useless for any player to attempt to explain successful batting.

Carnage

After witnessing last nights carnage, I turned to my wife and said the following:

“The only good thing about tonights game is that we’re not in a playoff race.”

Same bizarre events as the Milton Bradley game last year, but no playoff race this year = less painful.

I don't want to say ever.

This season has a habit of one-upping itself. I will say… so far.

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

Monkey Wrench

Isn’t this the Padres 40th season?

One good thing right now, is that there is no reason for us to rush Jake, CY or Bardo back. Hopefully the FO is smart about it and let’s those guys heal completely.

Off

You are excluding 1969. This is the 39th year since 1969, but 40th year including 1969.

they're gonna celebrate the 40th annvisary next year

so regardless of how many years they have actually existed, i’m just counting how they count.

Fair enough

They can’t seem to do anything else right this season, who needs counting?

I swear last time I talked to my season ticket rep, the recording while I was on hold mentioned this as their 40th season. What a festival of clowns. Probably the same yahoos that got rid of the Frequent Friar Program.
