Piazza calling it quits
"Last but certainly not least, I can't say goodbye without thanking the fans," Piazza said. "I can't recall a time in my career where I didn't feel embraced by all of you. Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland and Miami -- whether it was at home or on the road, you were all so supportive over the years.

Still not gay?
That sort of implies that he may one day become gay.
Maybe he’s trying really hard, but just can’t quite get there. I guess he’s got more time to work on it now that he’s retiring.
I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

Lots of love for NY
I have to say that my time with the Mets wouldn’t have been the same without the greatest fans in the world. One of the hardest moments of my career, was walking off the field at Shea Stadium and saying goodbye. My relationship with you made my time in New York the happiest of my career and for that, I will always be grateful.

He went into a big thing about the Mets
they got their own paragraph. I don’t care about them though.

A sad day for this panda...
Mikey P. was the only non- Cora (or singer for Pulley) Dodger I ever liked.

How good was this?
PADRES 2ND: Piazza homered; Gonzalez doubled to center; Greene
flied to center; Castilla flied to center; Barfield lined to
center; 1 R, 2 H, 0 E, 1 LOB. Giants 1, Padres 1.

So many of those games were good
It was great to see the Pads win. I don’t think I ever went to a game and saw them lose, which is bizarre because for my whole life it’s always been the other way around. It was a buoyant time.

I remember moving back to the states from Europe, excited to be back at a Pads game
and walking to my seat and hearing Mike Piazza’s name over the loudspeaker. I only fully believed it when I saw his name on the scoreboard. “Mike Piazza’s a Padre!?” It was such an unexpected pleasure to see one of my favorite players in a Padres uniform. It’s too bad it was of such short duration. That was a great season. One that I declared if the Padres went to the World Series, I would drop out of my senior year of college to go to the games. No time for college, Dr. Jones! But the Padres wanted me to graduate and made the ultimate sacrifice. Oh Mike Piazza, you will be missed.

Ah, finally Mike
Oh, this will call for a blog post from me. Let’s see..countdown to Cooperstown…2013? Or would it be 2014? Someone tell me – I need to start saving up!!!
I am a bit sad of course. No more yelling Mi-KEY when he came up to bat no matter which uniform he wore. But it was time. I’d been saying it all year – it’s time to hang ‘em up.
Oh how fitting that he ended up with 427 home runs!! 27 – my all time favorite number thanks to the first catcher who claimed my heart in 1975: Carlton Fisk.
Aw hell, now I am crying.

"The Triple"
The night CY lost his no-hitter to Joe Randa. Piazza hitting that triple and damn near dying at third base. Never forget that.

The pain.
Yeah the triple was great, but thanks for reopening that scar!
