GameThread, 5/2: Fish vs Friar

San Diego @ Florida

I think the best part of the Padres being terrible again is the fact that you can kinda settle into a game and appreciate the little things, because there aren't any big things to appreciate. Like, Hey at least it's baseball! Khalil almost hit that one into fair play. That was good. Bard doesn't look as exhausted as he did yesterday. That's cool. Bud Black's looking in the direction of the field! There's a step in the right direction.

At this rate, the Petco Park bandwagoners ("Season ticket holder since '04 baby!") and Padres fair weather fans ("My favorite team is actually the Cubs, but I attend the Padres games because I don't live in Chicago") will all disown the team ("How are your Padres doing?") and it'll just be us. Me and jbox and sometimes Kev and whoever's left of you guys and some random people who are fans of random teams.

We get to face the Marlins and that's always nice because we can play some Ichthyomancy with the guys over at FishStripes. We have a long history with the FishStripers. We've often tried to start a fued, but it becomes hard for our respective teams to really dislike each other. I'm not sure why. I've never thought of a really reason to dislike the Marlins. We've never had to face them in any sort of really important game. The Marlins Mermaids are an interesting take on cheerleaders in baseball. The Manatees are an interesting take on fat guys.

OK. So, let's watch some baseball. Drop by FishStripes and make a prediction. Predict the attendance, an MVP, some random thing that will happen. It's also Bring Your Dog to the Park night apparently, so pick the number of dogs. My predictions are as follows:

Attendance: 12,500 even
MVP: Hendrickson on the basis of double digit Ks
Somebody on the Padres literally poops their pants.
128 dogs, unless you don’t actually count the Padres and their coaching staff… then 98 or so.

GO PADRES!!!

I said...

11,498 attendance
Ugla mvp for no other reason other than the fact he’s a stud
Mr Morton will make some news…
184 (real) dogs and 12 stuffed animals (includes stupid purses/backpacks and mascots, official or otherwise)

You should pop over WG’s is funny.

Dude

I love the Price is Right. I also think its hilarious that all the commercials during the show are targeted for seniors.

I am convinced

that I could win every single game on that show. Except for maybe Plinko, because that’s just luck.

I bet that's what everyone thinks

What do you think about Drew Carey? He seems….disinterested too me.

lost...

ive heard of being lost at the plate, but two days in a row hairston has been lost in the outfield. the fact that he is both, during 95% of the games, is problematic. i’m sure he’ll figure it out in 10 days, sandy.

by mlb22 on May 2, 2008 4:19 PM PDT   0 recs

by Axion on May 2, 2008 4:20 PM PDT   0 recs

why don't they bring up headley

and give kouz a break on 3rd? headley could play outfield and corner infield.

by Dex on May 2, 2008 4:22 PM PDT   0 recs

At the same time, right?

Because I REALLY like that idea.

by Winfield's Ghost on May 2, 2008 4:22 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Headley

can he just play in the grass behind the 3B position and play both? Is that what you are implying?

by sdsuaztec4 on May 2, 2008 4:24 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes exactly

Let’s just play 8 guys in the field and see what happens.

Better yet, let’s have Jake pitch underhanded and bring out four guys and he’ll be like The King and His Court. I would totally be into that.

Way to go Greene...

Who likes the idea of sending Khalil to the Cubs?? I personally think its a great idea. Felix Pie and/or Matt Murton would really help us for 2009.

they don't play to 2 anymore

i heard that they still do the whole 9. ;)

actually, did you know that they used to play baseball where the winner was the first to 21? they should go back to that.

by Dex on May 2, 2008 4:36 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

might as well just play to 2

cuz the score will prolly stay the same for the rest of the game

his name is derived from a 13th century translation of the Swedish word for Owl.

A fact, use it as you wish.

that was unfortunate

far from over

you weren’t expecting the titanic Germano_Hendrickson duel to be featured as one of the weekend’s top pitcher’s duels on ESPN.com or anything, were you? The happy hat says this smells of an 8-7 game, just don’t ask me where the runs are coming from.

by mlb22 on May 2, 2008 4:40 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm sort of liking the Marlins announcers

Pleasant, non-threatening, not too homerific. Like the anti-Suton and Grace.

by mlb22 on May 2, 2008 4:52 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

And this is what I don't understand

You claim to be a Padres die-hard!!

I don’t recall the exact quote, nor do I care to go back and snag it, but you said you are in front of your TV every game decked out in your Padres gear, yet you still confuse us with your rants about getting rid of Khalil after 28 games.
