Open Thread: 5/19, Padres vs. Cardinals

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres, May 19, 2008 7:05 PM PDT

Welcome home Padres, it's been a long road trip.  You've played very sucky, uninspired baseball.  Now we have 20 games at home out of the next 23 games.

Ledezma takes Peavy's spot in the rotation tonight.  I don't think there has been any word on Peavy's elbow yet, I could be wrong.  I'm predicting Peavy will be out at least a month and it'll be a posterior elbow injury with tendonitis and bone chips.  Of course I know practically nothing about elbows, Peavy or baseball.

Go Padres!!

They said during the post game show that they met with doctors and they will release te results after the game. Also they said Peavy will most likely hit the DL and be out for more than one start.

This season reminds me of...

an Adam Ant song:

“Can’t pitch can’t hit, what do you do?
Can’t run can’t catch, what do you do?
Subtle inuendos follow, there must be something inside…the Padres!

If you can't be a good example, at least serve as a horrible warning...

Sixty percent sounds about right for facing our Padres

We really should be playing teams with 7 fielders where we get a 3 run lead to begin.

Also, a mercy rule would be nice. When you hear they’re 0-16 after trailing in the 7th….you sort of think might as well call it after 6 if they’re behind.

Speaking of drinking at the park

I heard a rumor that at Petco during the 7th inning stretch, you can buy beer on tap, chug as much as you can while they are ringing you up, and they’ll top it off for you after the transaction is completed. A guy I met said he’s done it a few times. Any one hear this one before?

St. Louis draws most of the Midwest.

The next-closest team geographically to them is the Royals. If you’re on the cusp, who do you pick?
