Around SBN: Falcons and Chargers Recap: The Win Is The Thing Bar-right-arrows

Open Thread: 5/18, Padres vs. Mariners

San Diego Padres @ Seattle Mariners

I'm fascinated with the way Ichiro puts the bat on the ball.  I really only saw his last at bat last night but he was looking fastball inner half and he could foul off every breaking ball on the outer half at will.  It was very Gwynn like.  The swings are different but the results were the same.  He's only been in the league 7 years and he has 1600+ hits, pretty amazing player.

Check out this article on Eric Show .

Look at this line up!  Gerut and Edgar Gonzalez kicking it off and Carlin catching.  I think Buddy is playing to win.

Go Padres!!

Come ooooooooooooooooon.

He almost got it right. Iguchi is on fire right now! Tony Clark is TERRIBLE. Egone at DH and Iguchi at 2B. Or visa versa. Either way.

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

I'm so angry at BB

Last night was so stupid. I swear this is his thought line, “lets play the guys who aren’t hitting so they can get their swings back, and let the guys (gerut and egone) who are hitting well sit on the bench, they don’t need the practice.” I hate him so much right now.

if he is really worried about guys getting their swings back

he should be using Bardo as DH too

you can not keep bumping your head against reality and saying it is not there.

Unless Gooch is sick...

No reason not to start him.

Bud just decided it was a good idea to rest him

“that guy is really on fire! who does he think he is, we don’t like hitters on this team. SIT DOWN!”

I like it, too.

Giles can get on base, but he’s not a leadoff guy. I like loading up at least one base runner for Adrian without someone in between to strikeout.

That's why I hate Ichiro

all of his hits are dinky little choppers off the end of the bat that he beats out.

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

by sdsuaztec4 on May 18, 2008 1:21 PM PDT   0 recs

A team full of Ichiros would be pretty nuts.

And a whole lot of fun to watch.

by Axion on May 18, 2008 1:30 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ya but think about it

There are a whole lot of major leaguers that are productive without speed. Ichiro would be WORTHLESS if he wasn’t so damn fast.

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

by sdsuaztec4 on May 18, 2008 1:32 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

He's got crazy bat control, though.

Guys also get by with just speed and no bat control.
Willy Taveras’ average jumped a few points when he moved to the thick-grass infield in Colorado.

I respect him.

He’s the guy beating us most of the time in these games. Whether it’s having that extra step to make a grab in RF to save some runs or scoring runs by himself like he just did…

Then

how did they wind up making such an easy double play? Don’t know all too much about baseball but a double play seemed avoidable. Please correct if I’m wrong, I want to learn more about baseball.
