Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Open Thread: 5/18, Padres vs. Mariners

San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners, May 18, 2008 1:10 PM PDT

I'm fascinated with the way Ichiro puts the bat on the ball.  I really only saw his last at bat last night but he was looking fastball inner half and he could foul off every breaking ball on the outer half at will.  It was very Gwynn like.  The swings are different but the results were the same.  He's only been in the league 7 years and he has 1600+ hits, pretty amazing player.

Check out this article on Eric Show .

Look at this line up!  Gerut and Edgar Gonzalez kicking it off and Carlin catching.  I think Buddy is playing to win.

Go Padres!!

Come ooooooooooooooooon.

He almost got it right. Iguchi is on fire right now! Tony Clark is TERRIBLE. Egone at DH and Iguchi at 2B. Or visa versa. Either way.

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

I'm so angry at BB

Last night was so stupid. I swear this is his thought line, “lets play the guys who aren’t hitting so they can get their swings back, and let the guys (gerut and egone) who are hitting well sit on the bench, they don’t need the practice.” I hate him so much right now.

if he is really worried about guys getting their swings back

he should be using Bardo as DH too

Shit balls.

I effing told him to leave Estes in the whole game.

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

I was worried there for a bit.

If we can’t keep squandering awesome starts, then how else are we supposed to lose?

He's failed at everything we've asked of him.

he played pretty good defense

in that 22 inning game

especially for a tired old man

you can not keep bumping your head against reality and saying it is not there.

And did what offensively?

This is the worst team i've ever seen.

We are so good at blowing our starters wins. It’s incredible how much we suck at all facets of this game.

I blame Huber and PMac.

They stole Heath’s cookie, that has to be it.

Just got in

...so we lost then?

"We've... we've got lumps of it 'round the back."

by ABY on May 18, 2008 4:10 PM PDT reply actions

Yes.

Only Adrian and Giles are doing things offensively.

Two runs a game from Adrian’s HRs aren’t enough, even though Estes held it.

Actually, the entire team is doing things offensively.

I mean, I’m deeply, deeply offended.

But as for runs and hitting the ball—yeah, that’s mostly just Giles and Adrian.
