Smells Like Padres in Here - Friday Edition
I went to Chicago once and had a very good time. The Padres went to Chicago and did not have a very good time.
"I think Tony will get some DH at-bats," Black said. "That's why he's here." He knows we don't get to use the DH all the time, right?
Updates on Barrett and Prior. If Prior has been consulting with Andrews since Monday, I can't imagine he's going to pitch this season.
Jon Heyman gives us the 20 best free agent signings ever. Hey, lookie there! The Pads are on the list.
A very nice column on Maddux.
The scouting report on Maddux.
On to Seattle to battle it out to see who can suck the most and then potentially squander the number one draft pick. Compelling. CY goes against Miguel Batista tonight. Game time is 7:10pm PDT.

Also
What does Bud Black have on Clint Hurdle? How did he get named one of the N.L. coaches in the All Star Game?
I think
Black knows that Holliday didn’t touch the plate.

Buddy needs a vacation.
I wonder if they had something riding on the past series.

Let me tell you...
What an amazing performance. It was raining…but I didn’t even notice it. When they’re on stage…it’s all sunshine and rainbows. The “Step by Step” and “Hangin’ Tough” medley was unforgettable. “Summertime” is going to be a major hit.
I couldn’t get closer than 1,000 feet from the stage, but it was still awesome.
Well...
I was a little back behind the crowd…at a distance. I don’t want to get into all the details.
Is this GLB's own form of Rickrolling?

You got me good with it, then.
We need a catchy verb for it. GeeLobbed? Glib-rolled?

Not sure if these have been posted elsewhere on the GLB....
Jayson Stark’s article on ESPN.com says the Padres may be the first sellers.
Here’s one AL executive’s nomination for a club that could go into early selling mode: The Padres. “The vibes we’re getting is that they already know it’s not happening for them this year,” the exec said. “So they may be the first team that tries to be opportunistic.” Among the Padres the shoppers figure to keep their eye on: Khalil Greene, Kevin Kouzmanoff (to open third base for Chase Headley), Randy Wolf and any bullpen arms the Padres would talk about.
Heard about that
But seems like it would be a bad move, at least in Khalil’s case, since there is no suitable replacement.
I could see moving Kouz for Chase. Guess I’d just like to see Venable in left, maybe Ambres in right, with Myrow on second if he can play it well. But seems like with Wolf and Maddux most likely gone next year, that leaves a few big questions marks.
Trading Kouz
I just don’t see them trading Kouz regardless of how bad things get. The organization has now put a lot of time into moving Headley into the outfield and unless there was some sort of staggering deal on the table for Kouz, I can’t see the logic in moving him. I could see them offering up nearly anyone else, but not him because of the situation that’s been created with Headley.

I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down.

Of course
It looks like Billy Beane got the best of the deal in the Hardin trade, (which is increadible since Hardin has been OUTSTANDING). Most “baseball men” thought he was crazy at the time. Same thing with traiding the other big two.
I think to sustain this organization, bit deals are going to be needed until Grady Fuson impact is really felt by the organization.

Who is Hardin?
And what trade are you talking about?
I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.
Yeah, what he said
Plus, 3B is one of the more solid positions right now in the bigs. There are not manly teams out there that would consider Kouz a big upgrade. He would at best be a very minor upgrade or a lateral move. Think about the playoff main contenders DBacks, Cubs, Mets, Phillies, Braves, Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Blue Jays, Tigers, Indians, Angels, A’s. You could make a case for the Indians (but egos may keep them from paying to get him back) and A’s (but they don’t seem like buyers), but everyone else is solid at 3B. Even many of the teams that others may think are contenders are set at 3B, White Sox, Royals, Brewers, Cardinals. Someone could make cases for the Marlins (probably not buyers), Reds (lateral move?), Dodgers (anyone who hates prospects, also, we won’t be trading with Dodgers), Rangers (Blalock? Buyers?), Orioles (only works if we take Mora’s salary). It just doesn’t ad up well.

For the loss...
29 strikeouts in 54 at-bats in last two games, stop letting the Cubs think they have a chance.

According to SignonSanDiego
Mark Prior has a capsule tear in his surgically repaired shoulder and will be shutdown for 2 weeks. Any ‘ballers that are orthopedic surgeons that can give us insight on this injury?

But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

that’s hilarious. Make that into a fan post and I’ll throw that up on the main page.
