Open Thread: 5/12, Padres vs. Cubs
San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs, May 12, 2008 5:05 PM PDT
Padres have a two game winning streak and have won their first series since the beginning of April.
Remember when Garvey hit that home run in 1984 ? That was great.
Go Padres!

Yeah...that and the Holliday chin slide...
two of my favorite plays!
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

I'll say it again
This is by far our best lineup. Giles is a much better 3 hitter. A little speed at the top. Pmac/Scott Harrison (lol) are interchangable I guess for now.
Me fail English? That's unpossible!

Um
Why no Carlin? Haven’t we determined that Luke Carlin + Starting = Padres win?
I mean, my theory is 100% accurate right now. How can you argue with that?
Small Sample Size
ahahahahahaha boooo you suck cuz you don’t know about sample sizes ahahahahha lol

Giles should have pretended that he couldn’t pull the ball out of that nook, the run wouldn’t have scored.

Weak AB by Khalil
How many times am I going to have to type that this season. What was the Padre Drinking Game equivalent of a three-pitch strikeout by Khalil?

My cable was out
so i sat outside with my radio on watching the cox guys until they fixed it
I told them “you know the Padres are playing right now, yea i need to see that”
didn’t make them work faster… they must have been dodger fans
I've got the key to paradise, but i've got too many legs
well i was on my porch
and i kept saying “i’d like to see that” very loudly
but same thing
I've got the key to paradise, but i've got too many legs
does anyone else...
ever have the urge to punch Zembrano?
not just because he’s on other team… he just genuinely bothers me
I've got the key to paradise, but i've got too many legs
Hell yeah
Always good to produce a run with the back half of the order leading off

I used to like Derek Lee.
Til that fateful day he bit off more than he could chew.

that shouldn't be allowed
he should have to man up and deal with it

I think he's 0 for 15 now

What's the S for, dare I ask.
It better be clever…

Bardo fooled me
i don’t get fooled much but i thought that one was out of here
it just sounded right

No fooling there.
Gerut with a solo shot!

double?
how can you let zambrano hit a double – not good…
His pitches are obviously too far up this inning.
Someone in the dugout reading this should notify him to make a correction.

Three more games after today
We have to look at Fukudome…

You mean the guy the Pads "bid" on,
but had no intention of getting – to shut the fans up?

If you think the Padres could have possibly outbid Chicago
I don’t even know where to begin.

Tell me again,
why we have middle relievers?

It just turned into the last month again
I was actually feeling hopeful about the Pads after this weekend…
I made the mistake of small sample size…reading this blog I should know better

we're already losing
fire the ball at Zambrano’s head

What exactly was Bud waiting for?
Let the the game get really out of hand before making a movie? When the camera’s start zooming in on you, waiting to make a move, go ahead and make a pitching change.
It's forty degrees.
And five minutes warming up is how long it takes.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
Then you stall.
You send Bard out to talk to him as long as he can. You send Balsley out there. There are ways to stall.
In the length of one at bat
that made the score 6-2 rather than 4-2 they were able to warm up just fine.
he thought it would be more motivating
to lose by several runs rather than 1
I've got the key to paradise, but i've got too many legs
I've always thought
that when the guy starts struggling you need to warm someone up asap
especially for relievers too because think about it, the guys job is to get people out… if he doesn’t get someone out then he’s not doing his job and get someone ready
when wolf gave up a double and a hr someone should have been warming up
I've got the key to paradise, but i've got too many legs
Is your cable working?

just like old times!
Was that still Henn? Germano was ready for a couple batters, right? Good. Good.
Who's in a hurry to put in Germano?

so did Kooz get hurt?
or did Black just get angry with him?

The gameplan for tonight has changed.
Make the cubs hit, run, and score so many runs, they are exhausted for the rest of the series.

can it just rain in chicago now
so they can call the game and the Padres can go cry

Either way, it's not the right amount...
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
Joethatcheritis rapidly spreading through the bullpen
Can the Padres survive this deadly new disease or are is our entire club doomed to be sent back to the PCL
i look at it this way
we weren’t going to come back to win the game anyways (most likely)
so now we have a new excuse!!! we faced their best pitching and their best offense!
so its all good…
I've got the key to paradise, but i've got too many legs
So when Wolf turns into his former self...

in all fairness
at least they got 3 runs and got to Zambrano for some hits
who would have thought that possible last week?

When they showed those two Padres fans in the stands
the Cubs fan sitting next to them looked like “Party Boy” Chris from Jackass
they know the offensive power of this team
and it terrifies them
especially Khalil

Cubs fans...
there team is winning 12-3 yet they still manage to look angry
that is talent.

Ups and downs
Ups:
Edgar popped his cherry with a hit & an RBI
Gerut popped a HR off Zambrano
Gooch hitting in anti-Padre situations (runners on base)
Downs:
Wolf imploded
Germano relieved Henn
GERMANO relieved Henn, you guys… what the hell.

More Ups
This new lineup looks somewhat actually useful. I blame Bud Black for all of our losses from now on, he is the worst bullpen manager ever. He should have pulled Wolf like….2 hours before he did. How many batters need to reach base before you pull a guy??

Lineup
I like it, too. Giles, a key on-base guy, right before A-Go? Sounds like someone’s been studying baseball, eh, Bud? /wink, nudge
I ain’t a pitching coach or a trainer so I don’t know exactly when Henn was ready. He warmed for five minutes, it was 41F there, and he probably hadn’t pitched since he was released, which I’m reading was April 30. That’s all I’m saying.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
Yah
but he could have at least used some better stall tactics to give him some more time. Wolf CLEARLY wasn’t getting it done.

Jody Gerut ties Edmonds for HRs this season!
I see that as a positive…..
I also really want Fukudome to come crashing down to earth like a malfunctioning satellite….because as it is, I hate him. Almost as much as I hate the Cubs spending money like the Red Sox and still managing to act dispossessed.
Oh well. That winning streak was excellent while it lasted.
