Smells Like Padres in Here - Wednesday Edition

I remember last year's bullpen.  They were awesome.

This year?  Not so freakin' much so far.  (Feel free to blame on those runners LOB, too.)

KT is looking at Damian Miller as a more permanent back-up for Bard.

I hated this article but felt I should bring it to your attention so that you could hate it with me.

Germano takes on someone named Jonathan Sanchez tonight.  Game time is 7:15pm PDT.

I would have never

guessed that 9 games in, all of our losses would be hung on a member of our bullpen. I don't feel all that terrible about last nite's loss, since we were completely shut down by Lincecum and managed to battle back,

That said, we've really got to stop giving away games. The base running gaffe by Kouz was just the latest in a series of really dumb moves (made by players or managers) that have cost us a game. I guess it's good that we haven't really gotten blown out in a game (I don't count the 7-1 game a blowout since it was tied until Black forgot to take out Thatch), but if we miss the playoffs by a game or two, we will have no shortage of games to point to that we should have won.

Nobody is immune to blame for last night's loss. 0 for 11 with RISP is just unacceptable. I love that we banged out 13 hits. But it would be nice if we could string like 2 or 3 of them together in the future.

These losses worry me

Normally I'm willing to shrug off loses in April and call it growing pains. But this year it's tough to take. One, the D'Backs are phenomenal, and B. have you seen our June schedule? If we don't start out well then by June we will most likely be buried in the standings.

And, I'm still waiting for Meredith or Bell to come in the seventh inning of April 4's game with the bases loaded, the scored tied and Thatcher struggling.

Sitting at the game last night

I was wondering why Bud didn't have Molina walked. We had 1 out with Aurelia next. Bengie already hit a jack that night and Rich was 0-5. I'd rather have taken my chances with Rich. But we pitched to Bengie and the rest is history. I love Bud, and I hate to be the Wednesday morning manager, but that among other decisions last night bugged me. Why did Peavy pinch run? I mean, I know the guy is quick and is a competitor. But would it have been worth it is our ace was torn up in a base running accident or something else that could have been avoided? The Bud threw Callix in the game, he gets a hit, then he is pulled. Wtf? Maybe I just don't get it.

I know the answer to this

because its was BENGIE FRICKIN MOLINA, who is terrible. Most lineups he bats 8th in.

Yeah

I'm not even walking Bonds or Pujols there. Unless there's a guy on second.

Maybe Bonds

Meredith struggles against powerful lefties. But normally he keeps the ball on the ground against righties. The Molina thing was pretty fluky.

And, I'm still waiting for Meredith or Bell to come in the seventh inning of April 4's game with the bases loaded, the scored tied and Thatcher struggling.

Crabbe got pulled for a double switch

They wanted Huber to bat in the pitcher's spot and I think they felt more confident in his bat for an extended game.

And, I'm still waiting for Meredith or Bell to come in the seventh inning of April 4's game with the bases loaded, the scored tied and Thatcher struggling.

27 Hits, 0 Runs

Does anyone know what the record is for number of hits without scoring a run?

I believe that whatever it is, the Padres may beat it this season...sigh

Our phenomenal starting pitching is being wasted

If you can't be a good example, at least serve as a horrible warning...

They do seem to have the best strategy

Get thrown out at third.

By the way

Isn't anyone else here happy that we didn't pony up the money for either Andruw Jones or Aaron Rowand?

Man, I cannot believe the agitation by some people in San Diego when those guys signed. Looks like KT had a clue, yet again.

by Phantom on Apr 9, 2008 12:13 PM PDT   0 recs

i would've loved andruw jones

but not at the price he eventually signed for. aaron rowand will come around, but probably not worth the price either.

rowand

would've fit in really nice with this team actually. nobody besides bonds could be a good consistent hitter in the middle of that lineup. he has ZERO protection.

he would've hit .280 with 25 HRs and played good defense for us, and for that he's definitely overpriced.

andruw jones was only a spectacular hitter for one year. his swing is too long and not the lease bit mechanically sound. i would've cried if the pads signed him to a big contract.

in philly

he hit those numbers........once. Rowand is a replacement player on a career look and adjusting for ballparks.

Sunday's Game

Just one example of how we lost the game. 1st inning, nobody out, man on second & first. Then 2 Ks and a groundout. We need to hit the ball.

I'm trying to think but nothing happens.

by CaleciaPad on Apr 9, 2008 2:10 PM PDT   0 recs

I think you're on to something!

I mean. We should just get hits every time we come up right? We'd win all the time. I can't believe no one has thought of this.

But seriously, I gotta give some credit to Lincecum for getting those K's and keeping us from getting extra base hits.

And, I'm still waiting for Meredith or Bell to come in the seventh inning of April 4's game with the bases loaded, the scored tied and Thatcher struggling.
