Open Thread, 4/29: Padres vs. Phillies
San Diego Padres at Philadelphia Phillies, Apr 29, 2008 4:05 PM PDT
You know what today is? It's Visit to the Vault day. This is the day that Jim "the Genius" Pursel and the Mark Grant Fan Club makes its annual trip to the ballpark to cheer for Mark Grant. Can you believe this is already the 5th year of Visiting the Vault? Me neither.
Greg Maddux tries yet again to get his 350th career win. He battles Cole Hamels, husband of Heidi from Survivor the TV show.
Also keep your eyes out for Chase's Chicks as they try to seduce Chase Utley.
Don't forget to boo Jayson Werth.

I love the Phillies announcer
I’m always expecting him to start talking about some epic football game.

Why does the Padres linescore ALWAYS look like 000000000?
Hit the F-in ball every once in a while!!!!!!!

If you can't be a good example, at least serve as a horrible warning...

I have said it before
Hairston should be the everyday centerfielder.
We've all experienced those delirious moments where one thing leads to another and you find yourself at the end of the night messing around with sheep. It's something we all have in common. -jbox
Ha
Well you know you have to have one hand on a beer at all times then. Kind of like Phantom staying in the bathroom except ten times more awesome.

That was a pathetic ass swing on the first pitch of the AB. Terrible.

You guys seem to have things under control here.
I’m going to go ahead and pop in later.

We look so utterly hopeless at the plate
day in and day out.

One Man Band
Way to go Shrek!
Can’t we get Jim Edmonds to sell hot dogs or roll tarp on the field?
If you can't be a good example, at least serve as a horrible warning...
He would pull a hammy and be out 4-6 weeks.

Can't sell hot dogs

jayson werth
i now wish paul depodesta had managed to bring him to san diego.
ARE YOU HAPPY FAMILY WERTH!? YOU HAVE BROKEN ME.
Never!
I refuse to let Jayson Werth win. We may not win another game this season, but not EVER will I let the Werth family win. Be strong, Dex!

At least it wasn't a DP.

"I had a really bad dream...it lasted 39 years and three weeks..."
Is that the Unabomber?
Or the guy who locked his daughter in the basement for 25 yrs? I get my crazy old men mixed up.

You know, I'm not sure
I only got it when I was in IE and I’ve only been in Firefox since then.

There was mention of a manifesto.
"I had a really bad dream...it lasted 39 years and three weeks..."
I'm drunk.
f*ck
Well Padres, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.

i just added jayson werth to my other fantasy team
maybe i’ll stop getting harassed by his friends and family now.
I can't believe you just said that
NEVER GIVE UP!!! SCREW THE WERTHS!!!
by Winfield's Ghost on Apr 29, 2008 6:27 PM PDT up reply actions
i think it's probably enough to add him to my fantasy teams
i’m not sure my wife would approve of going so far as to what you’re suggesting, wg.

Mud Grant = Hilarious!!
“Throw him out”......
Now that seiously made me laugh. C’mon Mud, you’re talking about Brian Giles and his parachute throws!!
the bullpen is really really weird
this is basically our bullpen from the last couple seasons, right?
i wonder if there's a statistically significant difference since last year
like is this just something that could’ve happened last season and we got lucky, or does the bullpen really suck this bad?
I'm assuming
we won’t pull him until its 12-2 in this inning :{
"We've... we've got lumps of it 'round the back."
Good job, AG
About 8 more of those and we’ll be good.

6 hits and 2 runs
“We can’t wait to go on the road! Philly will be a cure-all for our hitting woes!”
Shut the f**k up and learn how to hit or go get somebody that can. They cry and bitch about Petco?? This team couldn’t hit at Williamsport.
"I had a really bad dream...it lasted 39 years and three weeks..."
To be fair
They would probably lose in the West Regional and not even get to Williamsport.

Last 13 games. Worst. Team. Ever.

I blame this loss on Dex
He has gone over to the Werth’s side. Nothing will ever be the same now.

I'm thinkin'...
I’ll come up with something. Right now, our lack of players who know what to do with that long wooden stick is the only thing I can think of, but I doubt that’s right.

Things are in such disarray right now...
....that even WG’s “wooden stick” went untouched.
"I had a really bad dream...it lasted 39 years and three weeks..."
I don't think
he said it hadn’t been touched, but that no-one knew what to do with it…
