The Cellar
Feels sort of familiar, doesn't it, down here? It's been awhile. It's dark. I can't really feel anything. Hard to say how long we've been down here. What year is it? 2002? 2001? Lost track.
I'm glad this happened. Okay, not glad. But it's like reading a Beckett novel--it's claustrophobic and awful, but you're so far down, you're pretty certain the awfulness counts for something. Its healthy every once and awhile. It clears out all feelings of being entitled to success.
This is a down-payment, our suffering. In life, it can always get worse. In baseball, it doesn't matter if you're last by 1 game or 10---last is the floor. No lower to go. That's sort of cheery, right?

I kinda like it
Now we’ve got that wild, desperate look in our eyes. So far we can still take solace in the fact that there is a difference between “sucking” and “playing like we suck.” I am still pretty certain we are that second one.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

Nothing left to lose! There's a kind of Bad-News-Bearsness to last place
as opposed to just being in 4th. 4th sucks more, I think.

Back when we suck
my season tix were $25 face value, now they are $42 face value….........I don’t want to have a feeling of hopelessness at the ballpark, that is what work is for.
