GameThread, 4/24: Padres vs Giants
San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres, Apr 24, 2008 7:05 PM PDT
There's only one direction for us to go at this point and that direction is up... Unless we actually lose, at which point we're still apparently going down.
GO PADRES!!!

it was so bleak there for a while
what with that drawing of the anonymous fan pointing out the fact that we should grab a hot dog and what not.
That was so insulting
Day after day this cartoon told me chill out while I only half enjoyed the Padres games without GLB. You grab a hot dog, cartoon man! I like how the messages got more serious as the days went on. The last one was something like “We are having serious problems.”
they should've changed the picture too
instead of the cartoon man raising the “we’re number 1” finger, he could’ve looked slightly despondent and then later, crouched into a fetal position.
I might just have a meltdown if Chris Young doesn't pitch well
and it they don’t win. Or a tantrum.

Did you hear what Matty said?
“As long as there’s a cold beer and a hot pizza, Boomer will be there.” It’s like warped Tom Joad speech.

No surprise there

cameraman looking for the foul ball
i felt like i was watching the price is right for a second… scanning the crowd to see the next contestant.
I'd like for a fued to develop among the Padres pitchers
Since they technically never play together, it would be fun if CY would strike out the side and then give the finger to Peavy in the dugout while yelling, “THAT’S how I roll, bitches”

Two Good Pitchers+ Two Bad Offenses =
about 20 innings and three total runs, I reckon
you can't block the Bocock
It's embarrassing is what it is.
We have two outfielders that flatout can’t play defense in P-Keg and Huber. And then there’s Edmonds who has lost all range. When a 37 year old guy that just came off of micro-fracture surgery is your best defensive outfielder….things are not good.
"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."
What the hell...
Jerry just blew the action again…
“EdmondsEdmondsEdmondsWOAHMcAnulty *unintelligible mutterin”
Seriously, put the man in the co-pilot’s seat.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
jbox is right
The Colonel nailed it.
"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."
I guess
if P-Keg gets Edmonds out of the lineup, I’m OK with im playing everyday.
Seriously though, what the HELL is he doing in LF?
We
could have taken both our most “favorite” hitters out in one smack!
"We've... we've got lumps of it 'round the back."
Line-up tonight.
Wouldn’t tonight have been a good night to give Bard a rest before the big series against Arizona? And maybe put Callix in for Tadahito or Khalil? Let him lead-off and try and draw some walks? Maybe steal a bag or two? Rattle Lincecum a bit?
"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."
They should stop the game...
...and present Khalil with the ball.
"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."
He can do that.
Once every four at bats or so he looks like a major leaguer. Of course, less when he’s slumping.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
That was a much nicer way to put it.
"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."
Right?
I’ve been backspacing and cancelling my negativity tonight. Hopefully it holds out.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.
I was hoping for the same thing
Instead they opted to go with the easy double play ball. Each has it’s own merit.
There are 2 out....
...can we concentrate on the hitter??
"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."
I don't like that at all.
That’s chicken shit. We should have went right after Holm and made Lincecum bat first in the top of the sixth. WEAK.
"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."
Giles, our leadoff hitter
has taken exactly how many pitches this evening?

One good and one great catch in the outfield in the same inning
I like it! I’m kind of shocked, actually.
In other news, Linebrink just dodged a bullet in the Yanks-White Sox game
Had the bases loaded and was just DYING to give it away. So please remember—the Padre bullpen woes most definitely apply to former Padres too….
I blame Linebrink for the crapiness of my life

Boy that hurts.
It would be really great to see our team get it going. Unortunately, there is little reason to think this is going to happen anytime soon.
I'm going to pretend I didn't see that
Padre baseball is so much more fun when you pretend there’s no score. Do they give out trophies for Participation?
yes they do
the trophey is a bronzed pile of poop
Friendship's more lasting than love, and more legal than stalking.
Lincecum should be about done. 108 pitches.
Not that the Padres have had much success lately against that bullpen….that incredibly average bullpen.
I’m going to watch Joba Chamberlain pitch for the next 10 minutes and pretend he plays for us.
Someone should tell ESPN about this Joba kid. He's kind of good.
Is there even baseball played outside of New York and Boston?
He's had two ABs
tonite where he’s gone full. He’s seeing a lot more pitches this year than he ever has. I’d just like the power to come back.
Does that mean the Padres pick him up 5 years and 12 surgeries from now?
Way to stretch him, Dusty Bochy!
I accept this gift.
Oh baseball gods, I implore you for mercy!

get upset about this anymore. We just are terrible right now. I don’t expect anything good to happen. We can put all the men on base that we want, they’re just going to hang out there.

Glad I missed this one.
So we are officially the worst team in baseball! At least we aren’t cub fans.

Pittsburgh's offensive line could struggle with San Diego's pass rush. But then they would also struggle with San Diego State's pass rush.

Also
I’m Glad we managed 5 hits so at least we didn’t leave to many baserunners on. And I’m glad CY got a loss after pitching 7 innings and giving up two hits! I mean two hits! He should have a no hitter into the eighth inning like every time. WTF?
