GameThread, 4/24: Padres vs Giants

San Francisco Giants @ San Diego Padres

There's only one direction for us to go at this point and that direction is up... Unless we actually lose, at which point we're still apparently going down.

GO PADRES!!!

it was so bleak there for a while

what with that drawing of the anonymous fan pointing out the fact that we should grab a hot dog and what not.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:07 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

shhhh it's ok

just keep looking over in that other direction.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:12 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

That was so insulting

Day after day this cartoon told me chill out while I only half enjoyed the Padres games without GLB. You grab a hot dog, cartoon man! I like how the messages got more serious as the days went on. The last one was something like “We are having serious problems.”

by SD Chick N on Apr 24, 2008 7:13 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

they should've changed the picture too

instead of the cartoon man raising the “we’re number 1” finger, he could’ve looked slightly despondent and then later, crouched into a fetal position.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope you

have your laptop in the loo!

"We've... we've got lumps of it 'round the back."

by ABY on Apr 24, 2008 7:13 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Unfortunately

no. They’ve got to learn to win without the assistance of my poop.

tony gwynn in the booth

i bet he can still swing it.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:13 PM PDT   0 recs

I might just have a meltdown if Chris Young doesn't pitch well

and it they don’t win. Or a tantrum.

nice first inning

CY starting large and in charge.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:14 PM PDT   0 recs

Everybody say "Heeeeey!"

Boomer is in the stands.

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 7:15 PM PDT   0 recs

Did you hear what Matty said?

“As long as there’s a cold beer and a hot pizza, Boomer will be there.” It’s like warped Tom Joad speech.

by SD Chick N on Apr 24, 2008 7:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

He’s pretty goofy looking, with or without haircut.

you can't block the Bocock

by oldjacket on Apr 24, 2008 7:17 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

According to Boch and Flan

they call him “The Baby Faced Assassin”.

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 7:24 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

lincecum

he’s wearing like 4 or 5 lucky necklaces tonight.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:17 PM PDT   0 recs

One

would probably suffice.

"We've... we've got lumps of it 'round the back."

by ABY on Apr 24, 2008 7:19 PM PDT to parent up   1 recs

no joke

i see a cross and a seashell necklace or something and it looks like there may even be one tucked in and under his shirt.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I haven't seen that many necklaces on a guy

since I used to watch Dawson’s Creek.

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 7:25 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I think

he has a “scrunchie” on his arm too!

season 3 was the best.

Cash in.

Surprise me, boys.

That was

a great call. Great idea.

Another opportunity

squandered. =/

by Hacker on Apr 24, 2008 7:25 PM PDT   0 recs

Weird

We didn’t score.

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 7:25 PM PDT   0 recs

No surprise there

The Padres are like the fat guy at a party.

cameraman looking for the foul ball

i felt like i was watching the price is right for a second… scanning the crowd to see the next contestant.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:30 PM PDT   0 recs

CY

looking good at least.

by Hacker on Apr 24, 2008 7:30 PM PDT   0 recs

I was told this guy’s been struggling, but he looks pretty deadly tonight

CY

looks flat out deadly.

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 7:30 PM PDT   0 recs

Deadly looking

deadly dead

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 7:33 PM PDT   0 recs

I'd like for a fued to develop among the Padres pitchers

Since they technically never play together, it would be fun if CY would strike out the side and then give the finger to Peavy in the dugout while yelling, “THAT’S how I roll, bitches”

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:33 PM PDT   1 recs

Whoa!

When did Channel 4 start the KG intro video? That was pretty nice.

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 7:35 PM PDT   0 recs

They're trying to snap

him out of his now 0 for his last 13. “K”ahlil Greene.

by Hacker on Apr 24, 2008 7:37 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

broken bat

I still say that a broken bat entering the field of play should be ruled interference.

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:39 PM PDT   0 recs

I think

Clay Hensley would agree with you there.

by Hacker on Apr 24, 2008 7:40 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

At least

we’re making Lincecum work a bit. I’d love to see us score some runs, but baby steps.

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 7:41 PM PDT   0 recs

6 batters

6 straight Ks. Beautiful.

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 7:49 PM PDT   0 recs

hey hey! glb up and running!

let me know if at any point i should get out and push.

(c.y. looking goooood.)

6 Strike outs already

CY is cutting them down.

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 7:49 PM PDT   0 recs

wow

CY’s killin it… but so’s lincecum…

by Dex on Apr 24, 2008 7:49 PM PDT   0 recs

Yes

but we’ve put 3 men on against Lincecum. Baby steps.

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 7:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Two Good Pitchers+ Two Bad Offenses =

about 20 innings and three total runs, I reckon

you can't block the Bocock

by oldjacket on Apr 24, 2008 7:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Correction

Two horrible offenses.

Freakin' McAnulty

You can see Edmonds screaming that he’s got it!

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 8:05 PM PDT   0 recs

It's embarrassing is what it is.

We have two outfielders that flatout can’t play defense in P-Keg and Huber. And then there’s Edmonds who has lost all range. When a 37 year old guy that just came off of micro-fracture surgery is your best defensive outfielder….things are not good.

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:08 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

What the hell...

Jerry just blew the action again…

“EdmondsEdmondsEdmondsWOAHMcAnulty *unintelligible mutterin”

Seriously, put the man in the co-pilot’s seat.

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

by Axion on Apr 24, 2008 8:06 PM PDT   0 recs

That's actually

exactly what happened.

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 8:06 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

jbox is right

The Colonel nailed it.

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:09 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I guess

if P-Keg gets Edmonds out of the lineup, I’m OK with im playing everyday.

Seriously though, what the HELL is he doing in LF?

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 8:06 PM PDT   0 recs

We

could have taken both our most “favorite” hitters out in one smack!

"We've... we've got lumps of it 'round the back."

by ABY on Apr 24, 2008 8:07 PM PDT   0 recs

Line-up tonight.

Wouldn’t tonight have been a good night to give Bard a rest before the big series against Arizona? And maybe put Callix in for Tadahito or Khalil? Let him lead-off and try and draw some walks? Maybe steal a bag or two? Rattle Lincecum a bit?

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:13 PM PDT   0 recs

They should stop the game...

...and present Khalil with the ball.

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:15 PM PDT   0 recs

Even I

have to admit that’s hillarious.

And warranted :-(

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 8:16 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I gotta say

that was a great AB by Khalil. He started off 0-2. ran it full, then singled.

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 8:15 PM PDT   0 recs

He can do that.

Once every four at bats or so he looks like a major leaguer. Of course, less when he’s slumping.

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

by Axion on Apr 24, 2008 8:16 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

That was a much nicer way to put it.

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:17 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Right?

I’ve been backspacing and cancelling my negativity tonight. Hopefully it holds out.

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

by Axion on Apr 24, 2008 8:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm gonna try it.

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:19 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I was hoping for the same thing

Instead they opted to go with the easy double play ball. Each has it’s own merit.

by jbox on Apr 24, 2008 8:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Less chance of injury.

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Is that really

a wise decision in that situation? Shouldn’t he have just stood there?

by Phantom on Apr 24, 2008 8:19 PM PDT   0 recs

There are 2 out....

...can we concentrate on the hitter??

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

by Drama on Apr 24, 2008 8:27 PM PDT   0 recs

I don't like that at all.

That’s chicken shit. We should have went right after Holm and made Lincecum bat first in the top of the sixth. WEAK.

"I had a very bad dream...it lasted 39 years, two weeks and two days..."

Giles, our leadoff hitter

has taken exactly how many pitches this evening?
