GameThread, 4/18: Padres vs Diamondbacks

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks, Apr 18, 2008 6:40 PM PDT

Getting this up late! I thought 2.0 was supposed to automatically do this for us. We're already down by 7. Well at least it's not another low scoring game.

Go Padres!!!

I do have a question, though…. when I was in SD on business a couple weeks ago, I ate at a great taco shop like a mile outside the gates of Point Loma Submarine Base. I think it was called… Las Lomas? Something like that?

Know anything about it? Their Camarones del Diablo were FANTASTIC.

In the past thirty-nine innings of baseball the San Diego Padres have played (give or take), the club has scored a whopping total of 3 runs. That’s bad.

Gotta agree with Hannah on this one.

I may have strong feelings about the Padres, but I’m a ginormous fan of Greg Maddux. Guy’s probably the classiest pitcher in baseball.

It’ll be a real loss to us all when he retires.

Jim Edmonds= The Suck

I have already had enough of him taking bad angles to balls, getting beat deep over his head, and generally looking like an outfielder whose legs have had their better days.

Why don’t we shake things up- call up Chase, stick him in left, and move Hairy to CF full-time? We need to do something- I think I am going to go crazy if I have to see F8’s turn into doubles and triples in the gap all year.

I'll keep posting this until someone listens

Headley needs to EARN the promotion. We shouldn’t call him up if he’s not hitting in Portland. It sends the wrong message.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

by Wonko on Apr 19, 2008 11:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Well, Wonko...

I hope you’re familiar with the cut and paste feature.

by Drama on Apr 19, 2008 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions

He earned it in spring training

by smashing the hell out of the ball and being the team’s best hitter.

The only reason he was sent down was for him to get more work in LF. It wasn’t a “you’re not ready” demotion. It was a numbers thing. He’s already earned the promotion. I think his struggles right now have way more to do with his mentally focusing on defense than any sort of offensive deficiency.

by Winfield's Ghost on Apr 19, 2008 7:25 PM PDT up reply actions

"It sends the wrong message." To who?

Portland, Oregon. PGE Park. Beavers clubhouse:

Chip Ambres and Craig Stansberry are standing in front of their lockers. Oscar Robles walks up.

Oscar: Did you guys hear the news?
Chip: No. What news?
Oscar: They called up Headley.
Craig: Headley?
Chip: Chase got called up?
Oscar: Yep. Can you believe that shit?
Craig: The guy was unanimously voted the 2007 Texas League Player of the Year, is the club’s number one prospect and led the team in homeruns while batting .349 this Spring…and they think that’s enough to bring him up?
Oscar: I have no idea what they’re thinking.
Chip: Do they realize what kind of message this is sending?
