Billy Beane's Challenge: HOW to Add A Hitter? Bar-right-arrows

Open Thread: 4/17, Padres vs. Rockies

Colorado @ San Diego

Peavy_bobblehead_medium

I've got some breaking news about tonight's game.  I know you are all excited because the Miracle of Mobile is pitching, but your buddy jbox is a little bit clumsy and broke Jake Peavy's head off.  The miniature give away bobble head isn't as durable as one might expect.  This can only mean certain doom for our Padres.  It's an omen folks, the bad kind.  Not that there is necessarily a good kind of omen.

I'll just say it right now:  My Bad.

Bud Black has some line up changes tonight:

Tony Clark at first.
Justin Huber in left.
Scott Hairston in center.

Bud Black on the pre-game show

He’s throwing BP today.

He’s very happy with the starting pitching and defense.

Team hitting is okay. RISP is down. Run production and power are down.

Rotation changes via Bud Black

Maddux pitching tomorrow. Chris Young and Maddux are switching spots.

by jbox on Apr 17, 2008 4:16 PM PDT   0 recs

Reason

Maddux only threw 68 pitches on Sunday and Chris Young was having some stiffness and might be helped out by the day off.

Dude

use a piece of gum. It won’t fix the bobble, but his head will stay in place. C’mon it’ll work!

Callix Crabbe

As long as we’re going to see some bench players start, why not Callix? I want to see what he can do as a starter. I don’t have any stats to justify starting him or anything, I’d just like to see what he can do. And he has speed which would be nice on the basepaths.

Poor bobble Jake. I had the Peavy bobble with him in a race car, and his head broke off that one too.

I support this lineup.

Nevin is the best thing that happened to that show

And, I'm still waiting for Meredith or Bell to come in the seventh inning of April 4's game with the bases loaded, the score tied and Thatcher struggling.

Seconded

Or thirded, whatever.
I didn’t care much for Nev as a player, but on the radio, he’s gold!

Are you kidding me?

That guy is a douchebag!!!

He adds NOTHING to the show.

Lefties

that makes only 1 lefty in the lineup right? Good day to give Aid and Jimmy B a blow, but I think Bardo should have gotten a deep blow too if we are going bud black sunday afternoon special.

Go Padres!

Lets go global warming on their rocky mountain asses!

VIII. Chargers at Steelers -- Sunday, Nov. 16
Pittsburgh's offensive line could struggle with San Diego's pass rush. But then they would also struggle with San Diego State's pass rush.

Line-up changes

Hopefully T. Clark will get the start on Sunday as well. He hits well in AZ and is 4 for 8 against Randy Johnson.

by Drama on Apr 17, 2008 5:29 PM PDT   0 recs

No "Go Padres!"?

No “Yay Padres!”?

This worries me.

Did you guys know

You can watch MLB.com’s old-style gameday for AAA games. Unfortunately, Portland’s game vs the mini purple dinosaurs is rained out.

And, I'm still waiting for Meredith or Bell to come in the seventh inning of April 4's game with the bases loaded, the score tied and Thatcher struggling.

The Crowd

FYI…. there seemed to be a pretty big walk-up crowd tonight, at least what I could see at the right field ticket window.

So, it may be a later than normal arriving crowd.

by jpleeg2 on Apr 17, 2008 7:38 PM PDT   0 recs

That explains the crap on his hands

No batting gloves = pine tar on hands. I thought this might be the case but all the old photos had him wearing gloves at the plate.

Clark

Not looking good against Francis at all!!

Looking at the career stats, I woulda almost preferred Huber to get the start at 1B and Crabbe to get his first major league start in LF.
