Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

This is why you don't want to be a Padres fan. Whether or not it's a true story, it's sad.

You guys have to read the comments:

My personal fav:

One poster commented to that story with the phrase "Where else but the GLB," and my thought was "Thankfully not at places like the Snakepit or Purple Row." I’m really glad there are websites out there where the readers can act like adults, rather than 13 year-olds, and who put up with the occasional visit from The Enemy. Thanks!

Because when I think classy, the first thing I think of is the Snakepit.

On a related note, I think I finally found where all the youtube and yahoo! commenters hang out.

Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

Ouch.

Don't act like some of your guys didn't earn it last year.

with the constantly inflammatory remarks when the Pads played the DBacks, as well as showing up on random threads like the COL semi-playoff game to cause trouble for the sake of causing trouble.

I know you most likely have people that are class acts at the Snakepit.

But, at least for me, the members of the SnakePit that we have been exposed to at GLB kind of ruined it for everyone else.

"Whether or not its a true story..."

Sounds like someone is calling Wiggins a liar.

High and mighty in the high altitude?

From such a classy blog, I’d figure a personal attack on someone’s community entry wouldn’t be on the menu, bad joke or not…

Someone farts and suddenly we're a bunch of 13-year olds.

EVERYBODY DOES IT!

They obviously don’t.

We can’t talk about it… or even write amusing fiction… that’s just juvenile…

Oh hell no.

First they steal our playoff spot, and then they pick on Wiggins? Colorado Rockies and Purple Row- You have been put on notice.

Brilliant.

Creativity. Sense of humor. Comedic timing. Personality. Unicorns. Self-deprecation. Rainbows. Dolphin Porn.

Yeah, this place pretty much blows.

You realize that your profile pic paired with this statement is genius?

Right?

Geez, someone needs to pull the stick out already

Stop taking yourselves so seriously, Purple Row.

Padres for life

This is one more reason to thank Dex and jbox

If this place took itself as seriously as some other places take themselves, it would be so booooorrrrrriiiinnnngggg and would be about ten times less enjoyable.

Exactly.

Come for the baseball- stay for the funny.

Just for the record

I think Russ wrote that jokingly. We’ve always gotten along with Purple Row just fine as evidenced by our mutual rocking of the SI vote last year.

by Dex on Apr 15, 2008 3:43 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If he wrote that jokingly...

The effect was lost on the commenters, and you’d think he would know his readers well enough to make sure the point was crystallized if they were so adult as to be devoid of perspective. I’d have expected at least one person over there to read beyond the off-hand fanpost and look at the bulk of the topics on here. I’m not saying we’re Harvard Business Journal, but we’ve had our fair share of serious comments that, Padres or not, would be an engaging conversation to both read and participate in.

Glossing over their posts, it seems a lot more “on topic” on the whole, but every website’s like a bar – some are your style, some are not, and nobody’s forcing you to go into any of them. Pick the one you like, make it your home, and everyone’s happy.

Besides, if I want hard-hitting baseball analysis, I’ll go watch Baseball Tonight, thankyouverymuch.

Baseball Tonight

is “hard-hitting baseball analysis”? Or did you write that jokingly?

Wait. I want to change that comment...

If members of Gaslamp Ball watch Baseball Tonight for hard-hitting baseball analysis, then I’m siding with Purple Row on this one.

(Damn it, Hatching, get it right the first time.)

have made it a bit more clear that it was supposed to be funny, but I’d also expect my readers to recognize my style.

Rockies are now my #2 most-hated team after the Mariners

Who do people think they are?

Its not like we sit here and critisize and make fun of them all day long. Gosh.

On a side note, XX sports radio made posters that say “cant touch this” with a picture of home plate, i thought that was pretty funny.

Gaslamp Ball

I’d like to apologize for my remarks this morning over at Purple Row. I didn’t mean to insinuate that Gaslamp Ball was “classless”, I was more using the story link as a way to praise the Purple Row writers. I did not intend for things to blow up like this, and I apologize. Each blog does things differently, and that’s cool. I see no reason why this should create a bunch of bad blood between us.

But nice of you to clarify/apologize.

hatred of the Dodgers was universal… shouldn’t everyone be pleased with any acts of hatred towards them…?
