Smells Like Padres in Here - Tuesday Edition
It was pretty quiet around here yesterday for an off-day. (Other than TTG.)
Both the Pads and the Rox are downplaying this series.
According to this guy, the Padres are getting better, but still need work. Oh, you mean like pretty much every other team in baseball right now?
And this guy is already using the word "doom." And Dex thinks WE'RE negative...
The author of a column in The Daily Aztec can't really make up his mind about Trevor.
The Rocky Mountain News takes us back to last October and how Trevor has fared in the face of what happened. A couple of classy comments from Holliday here. (There are a bunch of stories out there rehashing the game, but this is the only one I'm linking to because enough is enough.)
Long profile of Tony Clark.
Hairston takes on Dex.
Ubaldo Jimenez takes on The Wolf in the opener. Game time is 7:05pm PDT.

May I just say...
What a wonderful night in the NL West last night.
Nate McClouth rips a two-out, 3-run homerun off Takashi Saito in the top of the ninth to give the Pirates a 6-4 win over the Dodgers at Chavez Latrine.
And the D-Backs bullpen blew a late lead to ruin Randy Johnson’s return in San Francisco.
Fantastic.

That makes me
smile. Even if I do have Saito as my closer in a fantasy league, that still makes me smile.

Don't Worry
we have Mclouth in our fantasy league.

No earned runs by the Giants in that game.
Bullpen didn’t blow it, young defense blew it.

Daily Aztec article
That’s a Gaslamp Baller, JLaff, who we adopted from Athletics Nation. He interviewed me for the Aztec a couple of years ago.

You and jbox adopted someone?
That’s great.

We should throw a shower or something
And I’d definitely like to hear from JLaff about what kind of parents they are.

please don't make me think about dex in the shower....
unless, of course, there’s an accompanying vlog.

Does this answer your question?

(I’m not sure what jbox looks like, but I imagine this is pretty close.)

2ff!!!
It looks so natural, next time I see him… “hey, you’re not jbox!”
I found you guys through AN too.
When mlb radio starting turning into a combination of WWE, E! and the Magic Roundabout (far more entertaining btw), another regular listener told me about the Athletics Nation website, whereupon I spotted the GLB link and I thought, what am I doing here!

Hmmm...
That guy must have forgotten that the Padres play in Petco Park, where runs were scored at a .755. They also have played in SF (.987), and LA (1.053). The Diamondbacks are playing in a park with a 1.111 run factor, and have been in Cincy (1.095) and Coors (1.160), three of the top seven parks for scoring runs. I don’t think anyone can be surprised that the Dbacks have scored lots of runs. More disturbing than that is how they have managed to give up so few runs. I think he is jumping the gun with his concerns about the Padres power numbers right now.

Downplaying?
The Padres were pumped up for Spring Training games against the Rockies (I was at one them where Peavy gave up on throwing only fastballs because he was pissed that Tulo got a dinger off of him). Don’t tell me this series doesn’t mean something.
Go Padres. Beat the Purple Dinosaurs!
And, I'm still waiting for Meredith or Bell to come in the seventh inning of April 4's game with the bases loaded, the score tied and Thatcher struggling.

Good news for out-of-town Chargers fans
The 2008 NFL schedule is here.
By my count, you’re guaranteed to see the Chargers play 3 Sunday night games (NBC), 1 Monday night game (ESPN), and 1 Thursday night game (assuming you have NFL Network).
There’s a chance CBS will give you the game in London on 10/26, as well as the only afternoon CBS game on 11/16 and 12/28, and the only afternoon FOX game on 11/30.

indeed
looks like an easy year in its entirety in the AFC West.
Of course, I wonder how much of that is skewed by the chiefs and raiders being terrible last year.

It's skewed quite a bit
The Bolts were the only AFC West team with a winning record last year.
The Donkeys were 7-9 and the Faiders and Chiefs were both 4-12. If you factor in the 6 combined games that the Bolts play against those 3 teams this year, that’s a combined W-L record of 30-66. So, removing that from the equation, their ‘08 opponents have a combined ‘07 record of 78-82, a .488 win%, which would put them in the middle of the pack, with the 15th easiest ‘08 schedule.
For Belicheat and his boys, they were also the only team in their division with a winning record. Buffalo was 7-9, the Jets 4-12, and the Fins 1-15. Removing those 3 teams’ combined ‘07 record of 24-72, their ‘08 opponents have a combined ‘07 win% of 75-85, a .469 win%, which would put them 11th easiest on the list.
I look at it more like this:
In my opinion, the Chargers have 5 “tough” non-division games this year – Pats (home), Saints(London), Steelers, Colts(home), Bucs….
The Pats have 4 – Chargers, Colts, Steelers, Seahawks…. all on the road except for Pittsburgh.
Sunday night, November 23 against the Colts should be a game for a 1st round bye, assuming all else falls into place.

K Cam is back
Enrique Gonzalez has been sent down (or is it up?) to Portland
I am feeling optimistic about this…should I be optimistic?
If you can't be a good example, at least serve as a horrible warning...

Agreed.
Yeah, K-Cam!
One poster commented to that story with the phrase "Where else but the GLB," and my thought was "Thankfully not at places like the Snakepit or Purple Row."
