Padres acquire Justin Huber
We get Huber for a Player To Be Named Later and cash considerations. Huber has looked like a terrific AAA player, but was never able to break through with the Royals. Hey, RoyalFan, what do you think? This looks like a quick depth addition and who knows? Maybe he'll make the 4th outfield spot outright.

Huh.
Those minor league numbers are pretty sweet. Let's see what this kid can do.
Do I have to press Z now or something?

Huber out of options
Huber was out of options for the Royals. Does he get new options as a Padre? The Padres already have a 4-A player who can't field and has no options, so I hope this doesn't mean we have two of them. If so, who's out? It would be a real bummer to give up on McAnulty at the expense of Gerut's hot spring and another dude who's is a McAnulty with a fancier reputation.

I don't get this.
Why do we need this guy? We don't have enough OF depth right now? If anything we have too much. Is this gonna take time away from Jody Gerut? Doesn't this hurt our ability to trade P-Keg's ass? I'm confused.

Really hoping we trade all of him and not just his ass...

Towers always has a plan
Expect another trade, somebody gets released, or some other major move

You're right.
I know...I know. Why do I question???

I love the idea of getting a "failed prospect"
but we've got tons of left fielders as it is. So unless McAnulty gets moved or something I've a little confused by this trade.

Failed Prospect
I wouldn't call him a failed prospect. He's the same age as Kouz was last year. Unless you think Kouz was a failed prospect.

Sweet signature
I'm looking for a way to "up" it.

Extra Innings on 1360
Just got home after listening to Craig Elston (I think?) and Jenny Cavnar on AM1360. Just thought I'd ask, does anyone expect Crabbe to be babied like Kory DeHaan or Shane Victorino? Elston was going on about how he hates the Rule V draft and how it's gonna handicap Bud Black to have Crabbe on the roster. It almost made me want to call in because I could disagree more. Crabbe played in AAA last year and was good. What more does he have to prove? Milwaukee exposed him to Rule V because they have Weeks, Counsell, Dillon and Irribarren at 2B, not because they thought Crabbe couldn't hack it. Am I expecting to much to expect the radio guys to be knowledgeable? Cavnar didn't argue (although I was impressed by her ability to talk on the radio at length about baseball without sounding lost. It's odd to hear a female voice talk about sports on the radio, no?), but I suspect she's more of a "baseball insider" than a "baseball analyst" or "baseball talk show personality". Anyway, anybody got any thoughts on the Crabbe thing?

K-Cam
I know that Kevin Cameron and Callix Crabbe are two totally different players...but I think the reason Elsten is assuming Crabbe will handicap Buddy is because of what we saw last season with K-Cam. He would go what seemed like forever without making an appearance.
Not saying I agree with him, because I don't...but I think that's where he was coming from.

KCam
It's funny because he even mentions how he was surprised that they used KCam so much, but really that's a situation with some similarities. KCam spent all of 2006 in AAA with a 3.00 ERA. He was major league ready too. I think they treated KCam like a rookie, not a Rule V guy. And really, all Crabbe is gonna NEED to do is play defense for the double switches with Iguchi, Giles or Edmonds and pinch run a bunch. It's a role he's capable of doing, like Cameron, and a role that's necessary, like Cameron. He's not a handicap, he's an asset.
I'm think I'm just jealous of Elsten cuz I can talk about baseball better than he can, but HE has the radio show. Haha! Hey Phantom, you and I should team up and take his job. I can yell and scream at all the idiots while sounding like one and you can be the voice of reason. We can totally pull it off. Oh wait they already have that show on the XX. DAMN.

No excitement
Being a Royals fan, I've become numb to trades. (see Jermaine Dye for Neifi Perez)
I have full faith that the Royals have somehow botched this trade.

Huber Acquisition
I think this is a very solid move. Huber gives us a potent right handed bat off the bench, which is something we completely lacked until KT pulled the trigger on this deal. Hopefully the PTBNL is not anyone of consequence.
Also, wow, what the hell happened to this SBNation? Crazy new format, this is. I stop reading for a mere six months and the place is damn near unrecognizable when I get back.

I guess the Royals
Were planning on putting him on waivers, but the Padres didn't want to risk losing him before he made it to them.

Huber: an Aussie
Yeah, he posted some big time AA and AAA numbers. Strangely underreported fact on this deal: Huber is Australian. Craig Shipley, Darren Bennett, and now this.
It seems that Edmonds will return soon, even if he starts on the DL, so what can this mean? Certainly they won't carry six outfielders (or three first basemen). Either McNulty or Gerut are on the way out, as someone said, or they think it'll be easier to sneak someone through waivers after the season starts.
