3/21/08 Open Thread; Padres vs. Brewers

Well, I know this game is going to probably not attract much of an audience given that XX isn't even covering it, but I'll be listening on MLB.com. I have to deal with the Brewers' broadcast, but I'm willing to grin and bear it for all of you.

Jake is on the hill. Some of you have decided that you no longer like him.

Shame on you.

Especially you, TTG.

Actually, I got nothing. Just trying to reach the character limit. Mostly B-squadders today with Kouz and Barrett as the only starters.

Apparently the Brewers
sent Sheets and Gallardo to beat up on our minor leaguers this morning. Classy.

The Mashin Macedonian!!!
Even better is that it went to CF, right over Cameron.

Padres up 1-0 top 1st.

MLB Gameday
Wierd, Says Parrino instead of Peavy. Even Wieder, XX isn't covering the game. Wierdest USD is keeping up with UCONN and is looking better than them right now.

P-Keg
with a line-drive double down the line to score Tony Clark (who walked). P-Keg to third on the throw home. Headley up now. Padres 2, Brewers still waiting to bat.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:16 PM PDT reply actions

Jeez
This is a really ghetto radio broadcast. Between innings I get the in-stadium PA announcements.

I was just told: "Remember to be tobacco free."

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:18 PM PDT reply actions

Jake
Did he get scratched?? I'm showing Andrew Parrino?!?!

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 1:20 PM PDT reply actions

Unless
the Brewers announcers are completely retarded (and I wouldn't put it past them), Jake is still pitching.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Great
Here comes the "Jake's only successful because of PETCO" crap.

God I hate not listening to our guys.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:24 PM PDT reply actions

Jake
is apparently struggling with his control today. Jake has walked two guys in the first.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:26 PM PDT reply actions

Jake serves up
a 3-run blast to Braun. Wonderful.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:27 PM PDT reply actions

Whoa
Padres are hitting .292 as a team this Spring. It would be REALLY REALLY REALLY nice if we could keep that up during the year.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:30 PM PDT reply actions

You know what else would be
REALLY REALLY NICE? Jake not giving up 3 run Homers.

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed.
After he gave up the dinger he struck out the next two guys, so maybe he's got his release point down.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

then stops

by iLOVEkouz5 on Mar 21, 2008 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

HAH!
The Honkeytonk Man (former WWE Intercontinental Champion) is in attendance at the game. See what you miss when you don't get the in-stadium PA announcements between innings?

Jason Kendall almost takes Jake yard.

Embarassing.

He's on Roids. He's on fucking steroids!

USD
is kicking some ass and taking some names against Connecicut.

CBS is about to jinx them
About to switch them to the national telecast...

by Winfield's Ghost on Mar 21, 2008 2:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Well all the other games are over
And USD is starting to look like USD right about now. 7-0 UCONN Run.

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 2:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Fielder almost
took Jake deep and hit a booming double. Seems like the Brewers are hitting him hard today.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 2:04 PM PDT reply actions

Chase!
Throws out Fielder trying to score from LF. Nice!

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 2:06 PM PDT reply actions

Baby's First
Outfield assist? Even if it was on Prince "fat ass" Fielder.

Bard
apparently learned from yesterday and decided to stop at 1st and not round too hard.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 2:13 PM PDT reply actions

Jake
The hits don't really worry me, its the 3 BBs. He should have his control by now with only 10 days till opening night.

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 2:24 PM PDT reply actions

Agreed
He was apparently quite animated today as he was frustrated by his inability to throw strikes.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 2:27 PM PDT up reply actions

3-2
Brewers after 4.5. C'mon Pads. Score some runs.

WG you watching this? its getting intense. even though I dont' even like usd. 13 would be the highest seed to win so far. up 4 with 53 seconds to go.

doesn't look good for San Diego

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 2:50 PM PDT up reply actions

really?
how do you miss that layup. stupid guy.

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions

It's reality
They are gagging.  Pomare has 4.  They're playing hot potato on the offensive end.  B. Johnson is only one that wants ball and UConn figured it out.

And he shoulda made that friggin' layup.

by Winfield's Ghost on Mar 21, 2008 2:54 PM PDT up reply actions

missed layups=double fail
Ginty!!! God, if he made either of the back ends on his free throws, ballgame. 2-4 FT at the end of an NCAA tourney game is unacceptable.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

by JBro12 on Mar 21, 2008 2:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Pomare
is straight ridiculous from the 18-20 foot range.

Of course, right as I type this, he fouls out. Let's go Rob Jones/Brandon Johnson!

Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

by JBro12 on Mar 21, 2008 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions

ROB EFFING JONES!
A couple of amazing shots and regulation and then taking control in OT!

BARdo
Also with a multi-hit game. Too bad Jake Sucks today.

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 2:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I love Bardo!
I especially love saying his name instead of Charge! when they do the Duh Duh D-Duh D-Duhhhhh thing at games.

How clutch was KT in '06 with his trades? AGo and CY for the remains of Eaton plus Otsuka, Cla and Bardo for the charred remains of Doug Freakin' Mirabelli, and then before '07 season trading for the Mashing Macedonian. An awesome 365 for the GM back then.

by Wonko on Mar 21, 2008 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Headley
The more I see him face real pitching, the more I think he should start in AAA. Buddy Black sounded like he was thinking the same the other day on XX.

ST AVG. Can't be all shitty pitching.

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 2:56 PM PDT up reply actions

What I mean is
He got a lot of hits off of guys ticketed for the minors and today he's struggling against Bush and Villanueva two bonafide MLers.

Dear Jake,

Rusch's ST ERA? 0.87  Rusch or Germano in the 5 hole??

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions

I'd go with Rusch
since he's a lefty. Let Germano play swingman/long relief.

by Phantom on Mar 21, 2008 3:02 PM PDT up reply actions

This is gonna sound rude but...
Anyone who uses ST stats to set rosters should be fired immediately. In a multi-million dollar business you just can't make decisions like that and expect to produce. I saw a great article on BP where they pointed out stats of guys for random months during the regular season. To sum it up, you can't really figure out anything based on them and that's against only ML competition, not the mixed bag you get in ST.

You know what grinds my gears?
SDSU dominated USD in the regular season non-conference game. WTF mate?

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Mar 21, 2008 3:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Who Says
SDSU couldn't beat UConn too? Just because they got killed by the Gators doesn't mean the Aztecs couldn't have hung around with a lazy UConn team.

I mean how does 6'7 Gyno beat a 7'3 guy so many times? Crazy times.

by Wonko on Mar 21, 2008 3:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll tell you how
Gyno's 15-18 foot pick and pop. 95% of Thabeet's blocks, and most blocks by big men for that matter, come within 4-5 feet of the hole. Draw their bigs out towards the perimeter, and they lose a rebounder and have their height negated by smaller, quicker guys.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.
