KBot Deal / No arbitration

Well, after the not so good news of a couple weeks ago, it looks like the Padres will again avoid going to arbitration.

I don't recall how long it's been (I'm sure it will be in tomorrow's paper), but I for one LOVE that the team has not gone to arbitration with any of their players, especially a vital piece like KBot.

From everything I've heard/read in the past, those arbitration hearings can get quite ugly....imagine sitting across the table from your employer as he/she brings all of your "negative qualities" up.  That can't possibly foster a positive ongoing relationship, hence the respect that I believe many players have for Padres ownership/front office.

Great news....
I only wish it were a longer deal.

Me too
But I have a theory on the shortness of the deal.

This could be an attempt by both sides to get a better sense of Khalil's true value and potential. Perhaps if Khalil puts up good numbers again in 08, this will force the team to sign him to a bigger money deal like he wanted. On the reverse, if Khalil gets hurt or struggles, then the team might have leverage to sign him to a longer, lower deal.

This means
The Padres can sell more "Greene" jerseys and upset even more Chicago White Sox fans by copying their team!

If I had 11 million dollars,
I'd spend it on two years of having the Bot play shortstop for me. Good deal.

When you say
"play shortstop for me" - can you be more specific?  Is this if you owned a team or just if you had 11 million dollars and wanted to hit grounders to someone in your backyard?

The second one.
Then we'd have freestyle battles.

the thought
Of TG in the backyard sipping on a beer hitting grounders to KG and yelling "okay, this time do that levitating spinning thingy when you throw it this time" and Khalil muttering his agents name under his breat, has made me laugh for like 40 minutes.

money
I do wonder what a guy like Khalil Greene spends his millions on.  Other than the white Armani suits, that is.

He spends it on . . .
$200 haircuts, cell phone overages and, of course, dancing shoes.
