KBot Deal / No arbitration
Well, after the not so good news of a couple weeks ago, it looks like the Padres will again avoid going to arbitration.

I don't recall how long it's been (I'm sure it will be in tomorrow's paper), but I for one LOVE that the team has not gone to arbitration with any of their players, especially a vital piece like KBot.
From everything I've heard/read in the past, those arbitration hearings can get quite ugly....imagine sitting across the table from your employer as he/she brings all of your "negative qualities" up. That can't possibly foster a positive ongoing relationship, hence the respect that I believe many players have for Padres ownership/front office.

Me too
This could be an attempt by both sides to get a better sense of Khalil's true value and potential. Perhaps if Khalil puts up good numbers again in 08, this will force the team to sign him to a bigger money deal like he wanted. On the reverse, if Khalil gets hurt or struggles, then the team might have leverage to sign him to a longer, lower deal.
