"Get on board early," Black said, alluding to, what he feels, is a crop of up-and-coming players.
"I would tell those fans that we're going to play good baseball. We're going to play hard. We're going to have exciting young players, we feel ... [Will] Venable, [Nick] Hundley, [Chase] Headley. We have some guys who are Major League-quality players."
I like that. You see that? That's good marketing. Don't tell me that moves are for "the best" and because of the economy. Tell me that I should be rooting cause the boys are gonna play hard and be exciting. I approve of Bud Black again.

Hundley
Paul on his blog made a comment about Hundley compared to other catchers in the league. I am really excited about Venable, and I think Headley will be good. (Greer looks like he has promise to be a good back end of the rotation guy), but I was never high on. Then I look at the catchers in the ML over the last two years, and only a few are good. The rest are pretty pathetic. Sort of a backhanded compliment, but I think Hundley can be just as pathetic as all the other ML catchers.

Oh, really?
“We have some guys who are Major League-quality players.”
I’d certainly hope that’s the case, given that they ARE a Major League team. Of course, one could argue the club could be tried on fraud charges for passing itself off as a Major League product for the last year.

we have some guys who are Major League quality, as opposed to the rest, who are of the AAA variety.

hang onto that thought ..
the rule V draft is coming, and the friars have three roster spots open … :)
“But hey, we have a great waiver priority” .. depo.

A Peavy trade
Could end up filling those roster spots.
"Whoa... You can't say stuff like that!"
"I get it Chief. I'll play ball. You just gotta blow the whistle and call the fouls. Alright?"
Gey for Gerut
Venereal for Venable
Horny for Hundley
c’mon you guys aren’t even excited a little bit?
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?
This is what I like about Bud Black
A baseball season is LONG, a Padres season, doubly so (not really… It goes by fast for us)
That’s why you have to keep your cool and stay even-keeled, like Black does.
He pretty much stays the course as long as possible, and in the long run that will pay off.
He’s optimistic and he encourages young players, especially young pitchers. He likes giving them the opportunity to stay out there and work through tough spots.
For the long haul, Black is a good coach to have.
Yeah sure, I’m a little excited. Lets hope that these trades produce some exciting young players.
