What pitching prospects do the Phillies have?
Rosenthal reported this afternoon that Philadelphia was getting involved and now all of a sudden the trade talks seem to have rapidly sped up to what looks like a close. I would bet that they’re one of the teams involved.
Do they have a top notch young pitcher in their system that’s making this trade all of sudden click for Kevin Towers?
several good pitching prospects
Carlos Carrasco, Kyle Drabek, JA Happ… I still don’t see what’s in this for the Phillies. Jason Marquis? Vitters? Kill me.

WHY CAN'T US?
Is Lendry sleeping?
Sounds like we get smoked in this, the Phillies get smoked in this, and the Cubs get one of the best pitchers in baseball.
How has there been no OK yet?
But I mean, by all means, take your time Jimmy.

A couple of average bullpen guys and another mediocre (reserve) SS.
With this logic, we could acquire Brandon Webb for Luis Rodriguez, Charlie Haeger and Brian Corey and Arizona would be “satisfied” with the “presented package.” I just need these talks to end. Everyone here is already assuming Jake=World Series ring. When they see big game Jake, they’re in for a surprise.

They'll also be in for a surprise when they see...
- Fifth inning and 106 pitches Jake
- Bases loaded in the 3rd, and then the 4th, and then the 5th inning Jake
- Six straight 3-2 pitch counts Jake

To answer your question of what's in it for Philadelphia
Sounds like your side would be getting Derosa.

Happ would be a good start
But not one Cub player interests me.

So we do the Cubs a favor to give 'em Jake and absorb $5m of Marquis' salary?
Angel Guzman? Total garbage. It’s a package of players all right. A package of bad and hopeless minor league players. Is KT working for the Cubs? The Braves deal sounded like crap but a lot better than this spew.

I'd rather take Escobar for Peavy straight up
than this crap we’ve been hearing about. If it gets done hopefully there are some names we get that haven’t been mentioned because every player I’ve heard rumored is absolute trash.

I still prefer he tries to sell him to the Angels.
I like more what we could possibly get out of that. Mainly a SS to go with pitching. Jason Marquis and Angel Guzman make me feel like vomiting.

KT
If you’re reading this: we’re all going to hate you.
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?
It is not his fault
Blame the Moores and their 40 mil salary beat down. Every other club knew it and we were raped of our best players for nothing – but a salary dump. The only way to enjoy the 09 season is … drinking games.
"Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana"
Groucho Marx
Every time a Padre strikes out - take a drink
Every time a player steals a base on CY – take a drink
Every time Adrian gets intentionaly walked – talk a drink
Every time Giles works a walk – take a drink
Every time there is a man on third with fewer than two and he does not score – finish your beer
Every time Buddy goes to the pen in the 5th inning – finish your beer
Every time the pen blows a game – finish the 6 pack…
This is very close to the drinking games I came up with to get through 2008
But you’ll have to hunt through the OTs to compare.
"Whoa... You can't say stuff like that!"
"I get it Chief. I'll play ball. You just gotta blow the whistle and call the fouls. Alright?"
and at the end of the season
when you’ve gained 65 lbs, lost your job, abandoned your family, spent your life savings on cheap vodka and even cheaper Padres memorabilia… you finally wake up in a pool of your own vomit and urine and realize that the Charger’s season has started and Norv is still the head coach and LT is another year older.
Take it easy guys
Why are we getting so angry again? The media twirls stories around left and right and about 15% actually have some merit while the other 85% are just stuff these writers are pulling out of their asses. Have we not learned our lesson in the whole Braves proposed deal? Everyone was calling for KTs head for the rumored trade that according to many media sources “the Padres agreed upon”. I personally have said from the beginning that I expect Jake to start the season for the Padres unless someone really overpays. But if it happens then it happens and I’ll pass judgment when it is official and know for sure what players we are getting in return.
If I can't make irrational threats to KT
at 11:22 PM, then when can I?

waiting to pass judgement until things become official
is not what we do here. Never has been, never will be.

Again
How about we wait to see what we are getting before we go bonkers?
At least with the phillies (and I keep hearing the Orioles who’ll toss in Garrett Olson), you now get a pretty good colllection of young players and talent
Garrett Olson is young, but where does "good" come from?

A package of:
Vitters, Marshall, Happ, and Cedeno starts to sound appealing, but it’s still missing something. I think if you added a low level, high ceiling, hard throwing pitcher with no injury history to that list it might start to get me excited.
Of course, I’m pretty sure the “package” I just mentioned (minus the anonymous “low level, high ceiling, hard throwing pitcher with no injury history”) isn’t really on the table.
