The expectation is that Greene will be moved even before the Winter Meetings start in Las Vegas on Monday. The Cardinals are said to be giving up two relief prospects to obtain Greene, sources tell The Post.

Woah, quick update.

MLB Trade Rumors says that Greene is going to the Cardinals.

This seems like a really

crappy deal for Khalil. I understand trading him for starting pitching, but for two relief prospects? Are you fucking kidding me?

by Phantom on Dec 3, 2008 9:09 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I guess depends on what kind of relief prospects

Our Bpen is pretty bare right now. I think Heath Bell is the only one in there.

On the other hand

Who the hell plays SS? If the comments at Viva El Birdos mean anything, it sounds like they’ve got alot of pitching talent for KT to steal.

I guess it all depends

on whether or not KT thinks the team has any shot of competing in the West this year. I figured with how bad everyone is that maybe we could make a run. But if we trade Khalil I pretty much see next year as a total rebuild. If Khalil goes, you can guarantee that Jake will follow him soon in a mediocre deal for a subpar shortstop.

And yeah, who’s gonna play SS? Sean Kazmar? This is beyond ridiculous. The Padres have to know they’re selling incredibly low on him. Does the team really want to get rid of him that badly?

It looks bad right now

But I’m going to wait and see who we get. We may get two stud pitchers.

Sigh, tough but inevitable

I had already resigned to the fact that we were gonna rebuild this year, so I knew they were trying to do this, i guess i just hoped it wouldn’t happen.

From the baseball side he was struggling, but he was always a guy that many fans enjoyed watching.
Homegrown product, great defense and the occasional blast.
Of course there’s also the proverbial “Strike three, on a slider low and away” …

I knew he was gonna be sent away because of his cost and the fact that he was up for free agency and was most likely going to walk, allegedly.

This does worry me in the long term, as we actually seem to have a few relievers creeping up our minor league system, but our next shortstop is probably in the Dominican right now. So dumping our SS for relievers seems like a short term answer for a team that needs to be building for the long term.

Thus, we need to get a good young shortstop in the Peavy deal or else, we in big trouble.

Peace Greene, my teenage stepdaughter will now have no reason to watch the Padres, and I will have one less reason (but of course I’ll still watch)

I like that it takes Khalil being traded

to make you see next year as a total rebuild. Your man crush never ceases to amaze me. I like that about you.

What happened to Luis Rodriguez, is he a free agent or do we still have him? I’ve lost track of him. I remember Alderson saying he didn’t think he’d be a long term solution, but he played well last year.

Pretty sure he's gonna be here next year

I haven’t heard otherwise.

I’m too lazy to google his status though,

check that, just tried and FAIL, should be easy to find.

Oh well, i’m 99% sure he’s back.

Maybe in celebration, can we get an LRod portriat Axion?

Yeah

He’ll be on the team next year.

Agreed

It’s totally absurd.

Kiddo got up @ midnight (Eastern) for a snack

and I foolishly told her that her favorite player was headed to St. Lou.
Her initial response was “I hope he likes El Caminos”; we laughed and then it sank in. After some deliberation, she doesn’t have a new favorite Padre yet but she decided she’ll still wear her Khalil shirts.

Awesome. You are teaching her well.

This is the same girl who

,at age 9, when we traded for Michael Barrett, asked ‘Is he related to Dickie Barrett?’

Dang! I've always liked Greene as a player.

I always thought he would emerge as a perennial All-Star player, and even though all signs are pointing away from that, I still believe that he’ll be a good player. I would’ve loved for a trade of Theriot plus a decent minor leaguer in exchange for Greene.

Now I guess I’ll have more chances of seeing him play against the Cubs.

Not sure how to react

Now we don’t have a SS unless you think Rodriguez counts and I don’t like that we have no idea who is coming this way

Luis was a significantly more productive hitter than Khalil in 2008. Granted, that says more about Khalil than Luis, but it’s still true.

If you thought last year was bad...

see what is left after the salary dump is thru. Besides Jake, AG and Kouz are next. They will have to give away tickets, beer and dogs to get anybody to show up next year.

When will the Padres learn not to trade with the Cardinals?

There is no way this turns out good for the Padres if history is any indication.

Let's just hope

this is the exception that confirms the rule. It doesn’t really look that way though

“Exception that confirms the rule” unlike “exception that proves the rule” makes absolutely no sense.

Lol

sorry about that. In the Dutch version of that expression the verb “confirm” is used. I guess I translated a bit too literally. Still you obviously got the point so I don’t see why you need to correct me with such a despising tone. But I guess if that’s how you get your kicks just go ahead…
