Brian Giles accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend
Can it get any worse for Padres fans? Brian Giles is being sued by an ex-girlfriend for $10 million and alleges that he beat her while she was pregnant with his child.
Around December 2005, they got engaged. Even though the engagement was called off, court papers claim the couple maintained a "marriage-like relationship" until about April 2008. "Beginning in 2002 and throughout the course of the parties’ long-term cohabiting relationship, the defendant conducted a continuing course of abusive conduct, including acts of emotional, verbal and physical domestic violence…" according to court documents.
Ugh. We'll see what comes of this, but it's really difficult to like anybody associated with the Padres these days. Are we technically associated with the Padres? What about Gaslamp Ballers in general? How closely is Scanlan associated with the Padres?
The Padres really need to work on non-work related relationship strategies. That's sinking to some kinda new low to even be accused of beating up a pregnant woman. That's like what evil people do. Evil like the devil.

This is a civil suit
If these things actually transpired, wouldn’t there be criminal proceedings?
I watch a lot of Judge Judy and based on this, and what we know about the called-off wedding, this woman is completely nuts.

I seen me some OJ trial once upon a time
Based on that particular case, I believe a civil suit happens separate from criminal proceedings, so there might be potentially another trial there.

Right
But the criminal one came first, and you know… actually took place.

Sometimes but not always
One doesn’t necessarily mean the other has to occur.
The example I like to give is a car accident where you get hurt – doesn’t always mean criminal proceedings (it can if its serious) but almost always means civil procedure (you hurt me, pay up).
There would have to be some evidence of physical abuse for this to not just be thrown out of court. I have a hard time believing Giles did this.

Oh no.
Giles was one of my heroes. One of the good guys. I can’t believe he’d do something like this. I’m ripping up his baseball cards right now. What a pig. That’s no way to treat a lady. Trust me, I’m something of a “DON JUAN.” lol!
i might be a happy go lucky guy but i'm serious when it comes to my padres! rofl!

Quick clarification
If the Padres are doing something well, I am the Padres. When they are not, you are all the Padres. It follows the simple “my Padres/your Padres” formula of Leitnerology.

She's a nut job...
I know from a very reliable source that his ex was a nut. I don’t think abuse is EVER right, but if this is “the” ex I think it is, the only reason I think he’d lay a hand on her would be to restrain her in self defense. There’s always two sides to every story, right!?
Great… just what the fans need ;-(

I gotta agree
I’m not passing judgment on whether or not the alleged abuse ever occured, but if it did, don’t you think actions would have taken place during the course of the relationship (and not afterward)? If the abuse really did occur, she’s going to have a difficult time proving her case without any kind of formal complaint ever being lodged during their time together.
Again, I’m not trying to judge the accuracy of these claims, but this doesn’t seem to be the best way to address this situation if the alleged abuse ever actually occurred. Given that, I’m not sure this really passes the smell test.
Additionally, the UT must think the same thing, as the link is now dead on their site.

Sickening
Reading the PDF, and it’s disgusting.
Basically she’s suing him because he’s in breach of contract for saying he’d take care of her financially, and now he’s not doing that anymore. The alleged abuse is like an afterthought.

Yeah but have you read the alleged abuse part (Act III)?
If its true then there should be pictures and witnesses because some it allegedly happened in public.

Damages
For the Act I and II: $10 million
For everything else: According to proof (if there is any?)
I bet she brings up his declining HR numbers and alleges steroid abuse next.

DUH!! guy is one of the biggest roid freaks in baseball. Look at the numbers, he was hitting big befor the mitchell report, then all of a sudden he ducked into the shadows of petco’s right field. As far as im concerned the mitchell report helped him, by making it harder for him to keep using the stuff. He probably would have been the next chris jericho. I know im gonna get a lot of grief for this, because for some reason san diegans stick by this guy, for whatever reason.

I don't think so....
I don’t believe any of this for one minute. This woman was a “dancer” when she hooked up w/ Giles…she was also stupid enough to refuse at the last minute to sign the pre-nup and was shocked when Giles called her bluff and called of the wedding. Then a few hook ups after that (and also after he kicked her out and cut off her credit cards) she gets pregnant….
I also personally saw her falling down drunk (which I hear happened alot) and also saw her have to be restrained from going after women she thought were hitting on Brian and lots of screaming and cursing….
She is a complete wack job who’s lost her meal ticket and is desperate…the only thing Giles might be guilty of is telling bad jokes.
