The Padres are interested in Vizquel?  Seriously?

Padres interested in Vizquel:  Eleven-time Gold Glover could help replace Greene

A baseball source said Wednesday that the Padres have inquired about the 41-year-old Vizquel, who could be looking for work after the Giants signed Edgar Renteria to a two-year, $18.5 million deal last week.

He's 41 years old.  I kinda thought we were trying to go in the younger direction, but maybe the Padres are trying for that young team with a few senior citizens with leadership qualities and skeltons in their closets.

Poll
Omar Vizquel to the Padres?
Good idea! It's so crazy it just might work.

Come on you guys didn't see this coming after they traded Greene?

Padres have done this countless times…

Edmonds, Wells, Orosco, ect…

they even did it back in the 70’s with McCovey

I voted "work"

And by “work” I mean he will ably fill the position and ably collect money, not “win” anything.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

I'd riot

I’d rather see LRod all season long than Omar.

I'd rather have Eckstein

then Vizquel

there’s really nothing left in the market for a SS

Out of the SS left

I’d rather have Adam Everett or Juan Uribe. At least they can play the position and hit okay. Vizquel can’t hit and refuse to believe that Eckstein should be given a SS job anywhere, he hasn’t played good defense at the position since 2002.

I highly recommend checking out FanGraphs.com for defensive stats. They are publishing UZR (one of the better def. stats based off of play-by-play data) back to 2002.

"Whoa... You can't say stuff like that!"
"I get it Chief. I'll play ball. You just gotta blow the whistle and call the fouls. Alright?"
