Padres and Braves discussing a deal that would send SS Yunel Escobar(R), SP JoJo Reyes (L) or SP Charlie Morton (R) and a top Prospect to the Padres for Peavy.

A deal with the Cubs would involve a third club.

Nice article.

I’d still like Escobar and Hanson.

I could live with this trade

As a Braves fan, that is. I’d hate to lose Escobar, as I’ve gone in detail several times, but I can assure you, you guys will be infuriated with Jo-Jo Reyes. He’d start the season in Portland and have like 100 strikeouts in April alone before he’s called up, and then will walk every batter he faces, give up 50 runs, before he is demoted back to AAA and blow away 100 more batters. But who knows, he’s a SoCal native, and perhaps some hometown love and the vast PETCO outfield will benefit him greatly.

Charlie Morton, I have optimism for; he’s got good stuff, and good makeup, but he’s just mentally weak. 1st and 2nd on, no outs, and then he turns into slow-pitch softball pitcher; he doesn’t quite grasp that it’s sometimes okay to concede a run for a DP, and puts the weight of the world on his shoulders when things get hairy (read: tries too hard when things get rough, gives up multi-run homers).

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

That's pretty fair

Consider the (lack of) salary of the players returning to the Padres, they’d likely bet better off with the package of young guys. Escobar was about 3-4 WAR this year, maybe 1-2 WAR less productive than Peavy. With Peavy’s $9MM salary, the Padres could buy another 2 WAR. When Peavy’s earning $16MM per year, they could buy another 3 WAR. Plus the other talent.

I'm kind of liking this deal

Except I’d rather have something other than Morton or Reyes. These guys aren’t prospects, they are fringe major leaguers. They will suck away time from many of our own prospects. I’d rather have a couple of low level prospects than one of these duds. But the idea of Schafer and Escobar solidifying the middle is exciting (assuming that Schafer is the other prospect because if or Hanson is not, then no dice).

Homer: Ohhhh, The Denver Broncos.
Marge: Whats wrong with the Denver Broncos?
Homer: Marge you just don't understand football.

This could jsut be a first offer

So they’ll take this, talk to the Cubs, then the Dodgers then back to the Braves to see who makes a better deal and further who is willing to up it.

But if this is what the damn Padres want or accept for Peavy, then at least have the Braves put a gun to moore’s head before he signs off to make it more authentic
