fellow ballers - though you may not have heard my voice much this past season, rest assured RBS and his clever rhetoric were always here...lurking. Ashamed as I was at the play of our boys in sand and blue in 08, I kept my GLB posting to a minimum. Alas I have not given up on the Padres. But a storm on the horizon threatens to sink my bouyant love for this team. I seriously can't tell you how pissed I'd be if we traded Peavy. I know we 'might get good prospects in return' and I don't care. the only reason to watch a Padres game last season was to see the best pitcher in the National League go at it. Please Padres, do not trade Jake Peavy.
So I found this site, www.KeepPeavy.com and I signed the petition. Won't you join me?

interesting......
you are correct WG, to say that I still hold a place in my heart for the halos. But seriously, how bad a team would we have without Jake? Do you want to see him go?

Depends on the return
And honestly at this point – if the payroll is going to go as low as what we’re hearing, it isn’t going to matter whether Peavy is here or not this season. If the team will really and truly commit to youth, I’m fine with trading him.
I hate the game he and Axelrod are playing, though. And it is most definitely a game. Richard pointed it out clearly in another thread. Axelrod is playing the bad guy and allowing Jake to attempt to remain the good guy, but it seems very clear that he wants to go. As I’ve said before, I don’t begrudge the fact that he may want to leave because the organization has once again shifted direction and not followed the path promised to him – but this sly little media campaign is tired and petty and we’re kidding ourselves if we’re just blaming Axelrod and not admitting that it all starts with Peavy.

Exactly....
IT ALL STARTS WITH PEAVY. Axelrod works for Jake…plain and simple. If Jake had any problem with ANY of the statements made by Axelrod since this whole thing started, he was the one in the position to tell Axelrod to put an end to it. He obviously has not.
The deal breaker for me was Axelrod’s comment to the NY Times on Tuesday that Jake is "a good hitter -– he was the most potent part of the Padres’ offense at times this year -– and he knows the hitters in the National League. But, Jake’s strongest preference is to not be traded."
There are so many things wrong with this statement I almost don’t know where to start. But let’s begin at the most egregious part – which is the incredibly disrespectful comment thrown out concerning Jake’s soon to be former teammates. I don’t give a sh*t if this team lost 99 games or 150…to say that Jake was the “most potent part” of the teams offense at times is a direct kick in the nuts to guys like Adrian, Giles, Kouz, The Savior, Gey, etc. It’s a low-road shot at some guys that are directly responsible for putting a Cy Young Award trophy on his mantel. Jake has yet to dispute the comment by a man he employs…so therefore I am led to believe he stands by it.
And as a side note…can we please quit comparing this guy to a young Mickey Mantle at the plate? He’s a good hitter for a pitcher…but hardly the best. He doesn’t have a single Silver Slugger Award for a pitcher and truthfully isn’t even the best hitting pitcher in the division. As I’ve already pointed out elsewhere, he had just as many RBI last season as Cha Seung Baek. Enough already.
He’s now insulted his teammates and the organization…in addition to already insulting the fans. His attitude towards a trade to the Dodgers or the Cubs should be enough to make any Padre fan want to vomit. And I love how every single insult hurled towards his teammates, the organization or the fans always ends in "But, Jake’s strongest preference is to not be traded." Of course it is, Barry…unless you can get that option picked up…or some more cash added to the contract.
Bye, Jake. And take your prick agent with you.

I can't get on board with the Angels
Something about rooting for a team with red as its main color just rubs me the wrong way.
Homer: Ohhhh, The Denver Broncos.
Marge: Whats wrong with the Denver Broncos?
Homer: Marge you just don't understand football.

Damn,
that was supposed to be for Drama’s comment.

Jake named his "guy" Axelrod.
