Hoffman said his chances of returning to the Padres are "not even 99-to-1" after the club took its offer -- which included a 2010 club option -- off the table.

I'm not sure
how to interpret the expression “not even 99-to-1”. I guess it means that chances are very small that he will come back or is that wrong?

I think so
I studied me some math once upon a time, and I’m not sure if Trevor is expressing himself very well with that number. He should’ve just said, “snowball’s chance in hell”.

I think it’s Trevor just being a flat out crybaby like he was during the last contract negotiations. Remember when he called up all the media in SD and “stormed” into the locker room and started packing all his stuff while throwing water on his face ala Wayne Cambell making it seem like he was crying. Then saying he sees no chance in coming back to SD only to come back shortly after saying that when the Padres upped the offer a bit. It’s going to get interesting to see how the closer market plays out since there really isn’t that many teams who need closers this year. I see Trevor getting left out in the cold.
Padres Fans: “What are the chances of a guy like you and a team like me hooking up”
Trevor: “Not good”
Padres Fans: “Not good as in 1 in 100?”
Trevor: “I’d say more like 1 in a million”
Padres Fans: “So you’re saying there is a chance?” Yeahhhh!"

KT & Sandy suck, but Trevor should swallow his pride
I will personally never forgive the Padres front office for the way they’ve treated Trevor in this off season. In 6 or 7 years, when we are all standing in Cooperstown, like we were for Tony, we are going to look back and realize what small-time thinking it was to worry about 1 or 2 million dollars with a guy like Trevor.
However, I think Trevor should swallow his pride and come back to the city that loves him. Screw the management, the city loves him and I imagine his teammates do too. Figure out a way to play for the Padres that makes him enough money so that he can save face (because we know he doesn’t financially need more money…) or do whatever it takes, but Hoffman in another uniform will make me vomit pretty much for the entirety of next season.

Trevor to sign with Indians today??
Apparently that’s the word going around according to Scott and BR this morning…..ahhh yes it’s like the winter of ’05 all over again.
1. The Pads make an offer and Trevor wants more money
2. The Hoffman camp goes to the media and Trevor throws a fit publicly
3. Trevor says he doesn’t see himself coming back to the Padres
4. Trevor is close to signing with the Indians
5. Trevor spurns the Indians offer to return to the Padres for less money because he never wanted to leave SD in the 1st place & he was just trying to get some more bucks
On a side note what is it with the Indians and enjoying the company of closers who have a lot of saves but have a high ERA that is 4 or higher (which I believe Trevor would have if he pitched in Cleveland next year). Bob Wickman, Dannys Baez, Joe Borowski and possibly Trevor now??? We’ll see……

Padres are unlikely to offer Trevor arbitration
If they really want him back then why are they not offering him arbitration? He is a type A FA this makes no sense.

They'd have to pay him closer to 7.5m instead of the 4m they offered
if he accepts. The link is the same one the fanshot is talking about.

Righgt but it would only be one year and he has said he does not want to come back...
…not to mention it would be a a good PR move if they did.

I think Hoffman would come back in that case
he would “win”, if he could get double what they offered him and stick it to the man.

And it would be good from a PR standpoint if the especially if the Padres trade Peavy and Greene.
and they would still be under $40 mil.

So there was an option for 2010?
I understood it as their being only 1 year on the offer.
Wasn’t that why it was rejected/left on the table in the first place?
