Padres can't plug holes until Peavy is traded
Padres' plans being put on hold
The whole Peavy situation is keeping Towers from addressing team's needs this off season.
But not knowing if the team can or will move Peavy and his $11 million contract for 2009 has all but left Towers in a standby mode until the future of the 2007 National League Cy Young Award winner is decided.
"That's pretty much it," Towers said. "It's certainly a large sum of money we would be moving. Once that's decided, we will have a better idea of what holes we would be plugging."
Maybe this is why pessimism is at an all time high. We are only hearing about our few good players leaving and we haven't acquired any one who has actually improved this 99 loss ball club.
Once that fresh meat is loaded into the locker room, maybe our spirits will be lifted.

keep him
and apologize, he fits the budget, with peavy, giles, cy and adrian, they’re around 50 mill… unless they want to go lower, the budget is at a good point with these players…
i expect that KT will find some hidden gerut-type gem this offseason that will marginally improve some position – maybe that 2b they got off waivers is that guy. i wouldnt object to trading kouz (the padres might, because he’s cheap – then again, maybe that’s why he’d make good trade bait), with headley replacing him – kouz strikes out too often and walks too little.

Yeah right, sure
We have our thumbs up our butts because we can’t get more then a bag of balls for Peavy. That’s absolute unqualified BS. We need another starting pitcher regardless, we need more relievers, we probably should move Kouz, but yet we can’t because of Peavy. That shows a complete lack of understanding of organizational clarity.

The Padres wont move anyone until Peavy is traded
because Peavy makes up such a large percentage of the 2009 payroll.
And Peavy probably won’t be traded until Sabathia is signed. Sabathia’s signing will set the value of top end pitching in this market and Peavy is a top end pitcher.
Kouzmanoff probably can’t be traded because he just had surgery and no one knows how he will heal. Real hard to trade for a guy if you don’t know if he can still play at all.
Headley struck out 104 times in 330 abs (31.42% of his abs). That is on pace for a 196 SO season. Kouzmanoff struck out 139 in 624 abs (22.27% of his abs). Headley struck out nearly 50% more per ab on average than Kouzmanoff.
Do you know what we get to do today? We get to talk baseball!

Headley also had
Seven more walks in 300 less at-bats.
8.3% to 3.6.

Headley is our savior
Stop trying to implying he is not.
Don’t make me start a new Inquisition.
Cuz I’ll do it. I’ll freaking raise Torquemada from the grave if I have to.
"Whoa... You can't say stuff like that!"
"I get it Chief. I'll play ball. You just gotta blow the whistle and call the fouls. Alright?"
