I can't see him playing left in Williamsport.

Congrats, Padres. On November 19th a move was finally made that improved the ballclub.

Such a painful trip...to find out this is it.

Just a few notes on Big Mac

.343/.440/.646/1.086 – 13hr & 50rbi in 181 abs at Portland

Looks like the best numbers in the Padres system for 2008.

.341 obp – 4th on the 2008 San Diego Padres

All that and he never really had a shot at starting consistently. Heres the game log if you want to look.

Do you know what we get to do today? We get to talk baseball!

Not the quintessential AAAA player

The quintessential AAAA player would have numbers in AAA that look like they would cut it if they were major league numbers. A stat line line more like .289/.345/.486 or something like that. PMac didn’t just skate by AAA he took it over his knee and spanked it till it called him daddy. That’s more than taking advantage of players who never had a shot at the bigs or reaping the benefits of a hitter’s park. That’s beating future major league stars and guys who could make it on lesser big league teams but are stuck on good teams’ AAA clubs. It’s real hitting ability. The problem is that the defense isn’t there so he’s better suited for a DH role where he can spend more time figuring out major league pitchers and less time learning how to take the right route in LF.

He may yet me be a AAAA player, but quintessential he is not.

"Whoa... You can't say stuff like that!"
"I get it Chief. I'll play ball. You just gotta blow the whistle and call the fouls. Alright?"

Isn't that what George Arias did?

Such a painful trip...to find out this is it.

No

McAnulty at 25 was already beating up AAA in his first year. Arias had a decent year at 25 and then blew up at 26 in his second repeat AAA year, aided by his home stadium (Las Vegas). McAnulty also has career minor league numbers of .304/.395/.493 (with his power numbers pulled down by a his injury plagued 2007 season) whereas Arias was .284/.353/.523. McAnulty dominated at almost every level and Arias had good years at each level and an exceptional 1998 at AAA when he finally got to an extreme hitters park. I think Arias is a case of a fluke year turning into a big league job and McAnulty is years of polish that deserves a chance to show what he can do.

Not really

135 AB is not a real chance. That’s far to small a sample size to make any sort of reliable decision.

Wrong!

That’s not what I said. I was quibbling with the phrasing.

"Whoa... You can't say stuff like that!"
"I get it Chief. I'll play ball. You just gotta blow the whistle and call the fouls. Alright?"

Not wrong!

Quibbling with phrasing by putting a “Not” in front of what someone else said is, in fact, saying the opposite of what someone else said; however, you did say more.

I know

But it is ironic that I would say someone is wrong about me saying someone was wrong.

It's also ironic

That some people pay just enough attention to me so that they can let me know that they’re not paying attention to me.

"Whoa... You can't say stuff like that!"
"I get it Chief. I'll play ball. You just gotta blow the whistle and call the fouls. Alright?"
