Official Statement calls Padres sale "Highly Speculative"

SAN DIEGO PADRES STATEMENT

A recent news report stated that John Moores intends to sell 49 percent of the San Diego Padres as part of a divorce settlement with his wife, Becky.  This report is highly speculative.

Obviously, since the Padres are part of the community estate, the matter of the Padres will need to be addressed as part of the divorce proceedings.  No decision regarding the Padres has been made, and the divorce proceedings are the subject of confidential mediation.

Neither John Moores nor the Padres will have any further comment on the report.

I'm not sure what to make of this.  Is this statement saying "okay it's true, but officially we aren't allowed to say anything"  or is this more of a "we can't confirm 49% because it might be 48%" or is this a denial?

[Note by jbox, 10/09/08 9:19 PM PDT ]  I was just re-reading this statement trying to decipher the secret code of what this means.  You know what bugs me about it.  I feel like the Padres are talking down to the public a little bit.  Why do they need the "Obviously" in there.  If it was indeed obvious then you wouldn't need to say it - but since they did say it, it's kind of condescending .  Leave that one word out and leave the attitude out and suddenly I feel better. That's all I was able to get out of it.

Sounds like it is still in mediation

So it could be 48% type thing.

I'll take that action!

My stocks performed like the Padres this year anyway.
