Hypothetical: Uggla to the Padres
Supposedly there's interest by the Padres in acquiring 2B Dan uggla from the Marlins. The UT suggests it as does another cite on MLB Rumors. I really don't know anything about this guy minus the fact I know he can hit. On that note can anyone tell me
1) what it'd cost to get him
2) what are hit other strengths and weaknesses?
3) would this be a good move?
4) Would be better off in comparisson with a stop gap until Antonelli or have people basically said no to that?

MAN
I thought we got Uggla. I’d love Dan Uggla. From what I’ve seen, that guy’s a star.

That'd be awesome.
Then the 2009 Padres would have three guys on the roster who can blow an All-Star game for you at any given time.
It’s been awhile… I bet you guys thought I got banned, huh?

Would they want Kouzmanoff?
Cantu used to play second so they could plug him in there instead of third. Kouzmanoff alone won’t do it, so who else could we throw in there to make a nice package?

Uggla’s like 4’11, but swings one hell of a mean bat. If you get him, you can look forward to television announcers making at least one reference to his Popeye-like massive forearms. He has tremendous bat speed, and does not making anything short of screaming contact.
His biggest weakness is his defense. His numbers don’t do justice, but his average of 11-13 errors per year could be worse if not for the instances where he recovers a bad bobble and throws out a pitcher, weak-running catcher or injury-prone-guy. He doesn’t seem to cover a lot of ground, and I admittedly find joy in watching him attempt those Spider-Man jumps to snare a flare, only to see the ball still sail about fifty feet above him and drop in for singles.
Uggla also strikes out a lot. But then again, most people wouldn’t turn down Ryan Howard or Adam Dunn if they were available, and they’re much worse than Uggly.
I’d hate to admit it, but Uggla would pretty much be a good pick up for any team, these days. His defense and Ks can easily be overlooked by his power and slugging. If he were not on the Marlins, I’d be willing to bet that he’d be a 35-40HR/100RBI guy already, with a higher OPS than what he’s showing now.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I don't know. . . .
We don’t really have a home park that makes bad defensive forgivable or forgettable. In fact, our park seems to lie in wait to jump on the first fielding error to turn it into a full-out clusterf*ck.

I can see into the future...
If he were not on the Padres, I’d be willing to bet that he’d be a 35-40HR/100RBI guy already, with a higher OPS than what he’s showing now.
Thank goodness that's over!

Rumor
I started this rumor a month ago. There is a fanshot of it on here somewhere. Here it is. I was suggesting Blanks and another prospect. I follow the Kouz reasonings, the only reason I didn’t suggest him is because he’s already used two years of major league service time and I would think the Marlins would want some guys who would be cheaper for longer. Kouz would be a one year rental before arbitration and then they’d most likely have to trade him.
