If trade talks on Peavy stretch into the offseason, bringing Sabathia into play, it doesn't appear Axelrod would link Sabathia's deal to the five clubs that Peavy has said he would strongly consider – the Astros, Braves, Cards, Cubs and Dodgers. "If it is someplace where Jake is being asked to make massive change and someplace he may not really want to go, it may take more enticement to get him to agree," Axelrod said.

Axelrod passively sinking potential deals?
The whole idea of trading Jake is that his nice contract would make people want to give us even more than they potentially might. If Jake is going to demand contract restructuring, wouldn’t this make it less attractive for us to move him?

Players that I know want to play in San Diego:
Trevor Hoffman
Brian Giles
Adrian Gonzalez
Players that I am becoming extremely irritated with:
Jacob Edward Peavy

Peavy says that it's not about the money
but why would he even consider going some place he didn’t want to go unless it was the money?

So does his agent...
"Making this about money is not my style, nor Jake’s style," Axlerod said.
What a strange thing for an agent to say.

No kidding.
I love how it’s not their style…but who is the one that told a reporter that that was an option?

Surely, it has something to do with money
but it’s also about winning a championship in his lifetime.

So wouldn't he only go to a team that could win?
Why would he consider a place that he didn’t want to be if the money was right?

The only thing we've heard from Jake or Barry
Cubs, Braves, Dodgers, Astros and Cards. Seems like everybody on his list thus far has a shot at a title…
“If it is someplace where Jake is being asked to make massive change and someplace he may not really want to go, it may take more enticement to get him to agree,”
Like… more money and a commitment to winning? It’s easy to say that it’s all about the money and “oh, Jake is so greedy dude.” BS. The guy also wants to win and it doesn’t appear that the Padres are a club with a title run on the front burner.

When did anybody say
“We’re gonna stop trying to win.”
Being fiscally responsible is not the antithesis of commitment to winning, never was, never will be.
I just want to know who wants to be here, and who doesn’t. If not, gtfokthxbai.
I want Jake to say any of the following (and mean it, of course):
I want to be a Padre
I want to lead the Padres to a championship
I am sorry for throwing a tantrum while other, more tenured teammates (who want to play here) maintain their silence, despite their fears, uncertainties, and doubts.
What I don’t want:
Jake “Eli Manning” Peavy

What else do you want him to say?
“I’m excited where I’m at, but I’m not happy where I’m at,” he said. “I want to win a world championship, bottom line. I don’t even care if I win another Cy Young Award. I want to be a world champion.”
or…
With the oldest of his two boys set to enter first grade next fall, Peavy plans to move his family from Alabama to San Diego.
“I’ve got to relocate because I want to be a daddy,” he said. “I don’t want to call and ask how the school day was, I want to tuck my boys in and ask them how their school day was. When you’ve got a 6-year-old in school, that’s just all there is to it.”
didn’t he just close on that house in San Diego?
and… Peavy said he wanted to stay with the Padres because of the
“unbelievable people in this organization. When you talk to Greg Maddux, after 20 years in baseball he said this is the most fun and the best people he’s been around in the game. It doesn’t take much to know that this is the place you want to be.”
Doesn’t this appear to you that the FO wants out of this contract?
by The Kipper on Oct 28, 2008 1:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I want him to say it now
Not in the days after his contract was signed. I want him to admit that it’s been one season on this contract, and the only people who cry more after one year of a multi-year deal play in the NFL.
All Jake has to do is say, “Kevin, Sandy, I’m exercising my no-trade clause. I’m not going anywhere.”
All this other posturing about winning a championship is bullcrap. Everyone wants to win, that’s why they play baseball, Jake’s not special or alone in that, and running around beating your chest exclaiming that all the time just makes you look like a jerk in front of your entire team – who obviously wants the same thing, yet are not trying to restructure a deal or saying “I’m Jake Peavy and you’d better build a team around me or else.”

You and I both want the same thing
…This guy on our team for the next ten years
You fault Peavy for the current situation and I fault the FO.
I agree to disagree.

Definitely agree
I just think Jake has the power to end it now, and for some reason he won’t. Every day we wake up until it’s “settled” just makes me hate it more!

I think
You both are too hasty to point blame. I think its just business. The team needs to explore options and Jake has compromised to be open to some of those options instead of none. It’s really not about one side or the other.
