Towers said he has heard from clubs interested in trading for ace pitcher Jake Peavy. "We're having talks," he said.
The GM said he wouldn't be surprised if the Peavy talks heat up next month.

Dammit I’d hate to see Peavy go. I’m starting to get flashbacks of 1993.

Disgusting.
And I don’t even like the guy.

You dont' like Jake Peavy?
People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power.

If Jake goes
Several friends of mine will no longer be Padre fans.
They’ve vented this to me already.

i know
a lot of people that wont be fans either
not just because they are fans of Jake but because they don’t like what the franchise is doing at all
i assume there probably are a lot of people that only watch the team for Jake so kinda sucks for the organization revenue will probably go way down
I don’t think I could ever forsake my Padres, but i might throw up a lot if this happens

Peavy
Let’s say Hank Steinbrenner instructs Brian Cashman to go get Jake Peavy no matter what the cost and the Yankees offer us a tremendous package (hehehe, I said tremendous package) that we can’t say no to…now, what happens if John Moores wants to make the deal…but Becky doesn’t. What happens then?
by Drama on Oct 12, 2008 7:07 AM PDT 0 recs
Or what if it's the other way around?
What if Becky issues a statement today saying that if the Padres were to recieve a fantastic offer from the Yankees that they would be crazy to turn it down? But then John starts getting all delusional and jealous and starts thinking that maybe Becky is now all hooked up with Hank and maybe they’re sharing calzones and doing the nasty on Costanza’s old desk in the Yankee offices….then John goes to the papers and says that trading away Peavy would be the dumbest thing the franchise has ever done. Then Hank goes to the NY Post and says that how is pretty obvious that “only one of the Padre owners apparently has a brain – and she’s got some pretty nice legs too! Hubba hubba!” Boom! John totally snaps and gets in his private jet and heads to New York. He shows up at the Yankee offices and drags Hank outside and proceeds to kick the shit out of him. The story is all over the place. Becky catches wind of what happened and is all “oh, Johnny really loved me all along! How can we possibly be apart??” Then Becky goes to John…and it’s all like that episode of Friends…you know the one where they’re all sitting around watching the video of Monica and Rachel getting ready for prom? Then they think that Rachel’s date is totally going to blow her off? So Ross puts on one of his dad’s old tux’s and is going to take her (cuz he like totally loves her)…but then Rachel’s date totally shows up at the last minute right when Ross is starting to go down the stairs to take her? And you see him all disappointed on the tape…and then Rachel realizes that he’s been hot for her forever? But she’s been such a self-centered bitch that was too busy banging cheating foreign guys that she never saw it. So, then Rachel goes to Ross and they start making out with tongue and everything…I think it’ll be just like that.

Re: Costanza's desk:
It was destroyed and replaced with “just lucite tables and four legs”.
You could be right about the Friends thing for all I know, though.

What the hell
The playoffs aren’t even over yet and you’re knee deep in sitcom DVDs aren’t you?
This is gonna get worse before it gets any better.
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

The issue is just what is avaliable for him
Let’s face facts, if he produces a starting CF, a good pitcher, maybe a shortstop and another prospect, then trading Peavy is worth something. The Padres have all the cards – if some team doesn’t absolutely blow them away then they keep their ace. The only way I’ll lose it is if we trade him for the equivalent ‘bag of balls and a hot dog’

The divorce will force the Padres 09 payroll to drop from 73 mil to
between 40 – 53. Take Maddux, Bard and Barrett out of the mix and you still need to drop another 5 to 10 mil. Trading Peavy for a bunch of cheap prospects gets you there. Don’t look to get a good proven player(s).
