Padres Awards Banquet

The Mrs and I went to the Annual Awards Banquet last night at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.

The program itself was long, drawn out, and a lil boring at times. Ted Leitner was the emcee and mentioned 3 or 4 times to one of the UCP (United Cerebral Palsy) folks from the Denver office, "Matt Holliday STILL has not touched home plate."

After the program was over, it got on to the good stuff.  Just like the last time we went a few years ago, we were able to mingle with the players, coaches, and front office personnel that were there.

Had some cool (albeit brief) convos with Chase Headley, Matt Antonelli, Kooz, Jake, and Jake's grandpa from Alabama (a great guy!).

I'm attaching some pics, and including one for a particular Gaslamp Baller who may/may not have a mancrush.....

Khalil
Was he there to collect his award?

Nope
He didn't make it. Instead, they played a video (about 10 seconds long) which was his "acceptance speech".

One thing I did hear amongst the crowd when I was there was about the "family health issues" that KT mentioned as a possible reason KBot is reluctant to sign a multiyear deal here in SD. From what I heard, it's his dad that's sick...no details, just that it's his pops.

On a side note, I didn't care for the fact that KT was quoted as saying something about that in the Union Tribune. To me, if a dude doesn't want to sign a deal for whatever reason, it doesn't make the team look any better to say they offered it and that the player wasn't receptive because of a family health issue....just my 2 cents.

Great pix
Thanks for sharing.

Also - I like the way Jake's tie matches his eyes.  Dreamy.
