Towers gets a 2 year extension

Towers gets a 2 year extension:

We get two more years of great baseball and unbuttoned shirts.

"I love the city, the club and the people. I like what we're doing and the direction we're taking. I had a chance (three years ago) to explore other opportunities, and I'm glad it didn't work out.

"Money's not really an issue. If I'm doing this job, I think this is the best place for me to be doing it."

Geoff  at Ducksnorts has a nice break down on Towers' trading history in his post.  Head over there and check out the link, you and Gammons can salivate over it together.

#1 NL West bullpen
No surprise that the Padres garnered the #1 NL West bullpen ranking in this simulation study.  All 5 NL West teams use the same lineup and have their starter pulled heading into the 7th inning with the score tied at 4-4.  The only difference between teams are their bullpen.  Each team uses 2008 ZIPS stats as input data (Diamondbacks use CHONE), and all stats are park adjusted to a neutral park.

Hoffman
I really appreciate his honesty with this.  A lot of guys would feed us a bunch of crap about how they were over it the second the game was over, which is a farce.  As he says, it's next to impossible to forget something like that and I appreciate the fact that he can be truthful about it.
