Hello
Thought I'd start this off. I've been lurking around here for a few weeks now and have been vastly entertained by everyone's comments. I work a lot of evenings in a lab and often miss the game on tv, so I follow it through gameday which can be very frustrating because you don't get all the details. One day I stumbled upon this site, read the open threads, and it all became more enjoyable watching and reading about the day's game.

A few quick facts about me:

Been a Padres fan for the past 2-3 years (yea, I jumped on the bandwagon). I can say this, I grew up in LA but I've never been a Dodger fan.

Favorite Padre: Greene (an enigma I want to know more about)

Favorite games I actually went to: Last September, Chris Young almost no-hits the Bucs; This past July when David Wells got ejected from a game against the Braves (Saturday day game and Pads win). He's a scary man.

I like those cheesy commercials with the Padres players...why don't they show them more often?

Matty V and Mudcat: love them

Anyway, I hope to become a regular poster here and to learn more about baseball and the Padres.

Whats Up
I guess I am one of the aforementioned 'lurkers' as well and I have been reading the GLB for the better part of the season. I finally created an account a couple weeks ago and only recently have I participated in the game-day threads.

I moved to SD from the east coast 15 years ago where as child I was told to root for the mets and the jets(5 year olds dont have a choice). Its safe to say now that I am not a fan of either team cuz its been Pads and Bolts ever since.

Even though the casual observer might find the group here a little wacky at first glance, I myself enjoy reading the blog and its also a place to get some good info on the Pads. I'm excited to pick up girls interested in sports... err I mean I am excited to "experience it" with some fellow fans for the remainder of the season.

btw great idea for a thread jbox

I am a converted Mets and Giants fan
but I never really liked them, it was like smoking cigs in the sixth grade, you talked about how great it is, why trying not to puke.

Hello
I've been viewing the site since... last year I think.

I just wanted to say that Dex's posts yesterday were some of the funniest things I've ever seen on this website.

The Gull girls were quite attractive too.

For the record, I thought Cassel should have started against Arizona.

Heyo
I lurk to some extent. I'm all over the place, really. I usually forget to come here while watching the games, unless someone hits a Slam and I want someone to virtual-high-five. :D

Need a win tonight, boys and girls.

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

Hi
I'm here because I'm a Cubs fan, however, once they leave, if I love them, I still root for the name on the back.  Doggy and Michael Barrett are two of my all time faves.

The A's are my AL team, so I was thrilled to hear that, if he couldn't be an A anymore, Milty was going to a good place.  I've grown fond of several other Padres that haven't played for "my teams," as well.

You guys are highly entertaining. : )  Take good care of my boys.

Hello
Hi, I've also been a lurker since June or something.  I now visit everyday to see what you guys have to say about the Padres.

I've been a lifelong TJ resident and I admired Gwynn in my childhood.  I disconnected from baseball as I didn't follow it very much for a few years.  But my interest returned last year and now I'm excited because of the big possibility of playoffs.

Most probably I'll continue to hide in the shadows unless I have something intelligent to say, which doesn't happen that often.

Go Pads!

WOW
Have you seen those User id numbers? We have over 700 registered users in here now! Of course, not all are active, but I really think this place has blown up in the past year.

Very cool. Welcome lurkers ;-)

Hello
hi,
I've been hanging around here for a while now. Been a Padres fan for about 25 years or so. I currently live in LA, follow my boys via Extra Innings/Directv and the internet with an occasional trip home to SD.

Living in LA, I go to many Angels games for my live baseball fix (have a friend who used to pitch for them) even though Dodger Stadium is only 10 minutes from my house. Can't stand dodgerfan.

GO Padres!

Hey!
What's up everyone,

I'd like to share one of my favorite experiences as a fan of the friars, which happened last year as we clinched the division for the second consecutive year and post-season mania was overtaking San Diego.

In the weeks leading to our series against the Cardinals, this mania, this juicy mix of anticipation and excitement and, perhaps, of some trepidation, a little fear of the unknown, culminated into a record-breaking turnout of the Padres faithful in what was later confirmed as the largest fan-rally of the day throughout the nation; some of you are nodding your heads in nostalgic recollection, no doubt, as you remember the Padres rally held scant less than a year ago to herald the coming of the playoffs.

After a less than stellar performance by a band whose most notable achievement that day was not getting booed off the stage by hundreds of howling fans, Matty V and the Mudcat prepared to introduce a lineup of past and present Padres, bringing the din of the at full-capacity park at the park to nearly unbearable levels.

The names of most players escapes me now, probably because of the sudden rush to the head I experienced as Jake Peavy took the stage and smiled sheepishly at the crowd, but as the fans erupted into a frenzy of cheers I was taken aback by the the barely-audible mention of one name whose mere utterance seemed laughable, offensive, and downright shameful, so confusingly out of place that by the time the name "Archi Cianfracco!" had been projected over the crowd, I could only gape dumbfounded at the stage as a gentleman several rows behind me blurted "Archi Cianfracco? What the fuck?", stealing those very words from my lips.

I'll bet some of you were there; sure was fun though, wasn't it? Long-time reader, first-time poster, keep up the good work guys! Go Padres!

Hellloooo
Also one of those that "lurks", just about everyday. Good times, makes my day a little more interesting and the games pretty damn funny.
Go Pads, unicorns, and Brett Tomko..not really.

hey
been reading this thing for a few months now, and it's already rubbing off on me and my padres faithful roommies - 'khalilbot' and 'experience it!' are yelled far too often in my apartment these days.

brief history about me:
i'm a san diego lifer, born in '84 to parents who have been following the pads since they joined the majors.  fitting year for a padres fan, i guess.  i still even have the hand-me-down cubbusters t-shirt from the playoffs that year.  i've been watching the pads as long as i can remember, though it wasn't until the '96 season that i went completely padres mental...that last series against the dirty dodgers still ranks as my favorite franchise moment (close second: being in attendance at 1998 NLDS game 4 - kevin brown vs. randy johnson)

like every other good san diegan kid in the '90s, being a padres fan was about worshipping #19.  i grew up in poway and am about the same age as tony jr, so there were always the occasional moments of seeing one of baseball's Greatest Hitters EVER taping his kid's basketball game.  incidentally, does anybody else think his statue in the park makes him look like he's wearing an adult diaper?

there's never been a better time to be a padres fan.  they're actually good enough that they're worth getting stressed out over and having a good bitch session every now and then.  thank god for glb, eh?

Sweet Lurky Action

Huge lurker; read Gaslamp Ball threads almost exclusively after the fact because if I'm at home watching a game I'm usually working on something else.

Which is why I'm un-lurkifying myself two days later.

But I brought something to share with the class: A photo I took of Wells on 2-July when we beat the Marlins. Dude was adjusting himself, consistently, between EVERY pitch, so my friends suggested an action shot. Our vantage point allowed the photo to caption itself.
