Our old friend, Byung-Hyun Kim, visits us today and our welcome wagon is Jake Peavy. Day game for us means that there's no reason why we can't all get a good night's rest tonight. A full eight hours. Unless you're a typical Gaslamp Baller, and in that case, you'll sleep when you're dead.

Switching gears. Here's a way to revolutionize baseball... When a pitcher strikes out the side, he scores a run for his team. Think about how awesome that would be.

It would be crazy awesome.

The people over at Fish Stripes are good people.  This from their open thread:

"Peavy is....Do the Padres have a starter that sucks?  Because I haven't seen one.  I really can't believe that the Padres are being so selfish to allow Peavy to start this game.  I mean, it will only give him is normal four days of rest before the All-Star game and clearly he needs an extra day."

So good natured and funny.  I hope they crush the Dodgers.  Until then, though, let's go Padres!

Weird Day
I'm down in my office overlooking the public restrooms and best western here on PB drive with a bit of a giddy feeling for day baseball. But there is also a strangeness in the air. It's damp out here, the trash haulers are done taking away the trash from every scum loser that can't pick up after themselves. The beach streets are super busy but no bikinis, and all the abercrombie/ficth model wannabes have kept their shirts on... I haven't heard the loud stereos of summer, the sun hasn't come out. I think I saw a dead head sticker on a cadilac... listtle voice inside my head says never look back, you can never look back.

If you are having one of "those" days
On your way home after work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the section where they have thermometers. You will need to purchase a rectal thermometer made by Q-Tip. Be very sure that you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the drapes, and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed during your therapy.

I will say it
He is the reason we are struggling with scoring runs.  With B. Giles getting on base, Marcus, Cameron, KG doing better; AGon and Bard are really killing us.  Kouz is scuffling a bit lately but he is a rookie and in the 8th hole.

I guess AGON is really trying to earn that 50K raise (I know he signed an extension).

I just can't remember

When RBS and I went to game 1 of the Dodgers series one month ago today, Aid was hitting just a notch below .300. He's dropped 30+ points since then and has looked pretty terrible doing so.

It's a lot easier to drop 30 points than pick up 30 points...

Pitching IS NOT ENOUGH!!! This team SUCKS at bat. They should be embarassed at these outings against these Marlins scrub pitchers. And Atlanta is coming in?? With GOOD pitchers? What sorts of crazy shit are we going to have to pull off to get a win in THAT series??

Truly - someone's head needs to roll here. I don't care if we win the west again on the backs/arms of our pitchers. We will NEVER (go ahead, quote me) win a post season series with offense this feeble. NEVER.

I thought we were supposed to field
a team suited for PETCO.  With no averages over .300 and a bunch of guys that strikeout alot, that doesn't seem to me a team "built" for PETCO.

Hey, I can't help it.  We REALLY should have won this one.  

I want our team to be in 1st place come the break.  I want the announcers during the All-Star game to refer to us as the "first-place Padres" when talking about Peavy, Hoffman...and Young.  I DO NOT want to hear the phrase "first-place Dodgers" when they refer to Martin and Penny.

they have to recognize the problem. barrett helps, maybe bradley will help, but these guys aren't the answer.

Given the comparison, I can see that only Tulo has a better OPS. However, Khalil has far outslugged all of the SS in the NL West and I think he's arguably the best defender of the lot.
