man we are in a world of hurt. I miss Linebrink already but this is not the end of the world. Can anybody remember when the Padres kicked ass? I can it's called the last few years. It's rough when you lose to the likes of the phillies. And then the Rockies? What happened to this pleasurable experience called the Padres Season. But I am going to call this the tipping point of the Padres season. Here's why...
But before I get to the tipping point discussion please allow me to say this. Of course Randy Jones deserves to have his number retired. He sells BBQ at the games. Business is business and BBQ success helps the Padres and vice versa. One hand washes the other in San Diego and I can't wait to have RETIRED JERSEY BBQ at Petco. I can taste it now. But I digress...
Here's my issue: Linebrink is the man. He seems to be a good guy and EVERYONE and their mom wanted him on their team the last few years. And then we trade him at the trading deadline for three prospects who probably will not help us win a pennant? That is to say, unless we trade them for someone else.
Here's the point: These next few weeks mean EVERYTHING to this ballclub and this season. We are losing to lesser teams, blowing late leads, and are basically holding our breath for the other shoe to drop. It won't drop I say. Why? Here's why. The Padres certainly have the skills and mental fortitude to win it all this year. All we need is some type of incident to pull this all together ( a la Major League.) I almost wish that sweep of the Dodgers that culminated in a 5 run 9th inning would happen now. We have the best bunch of guys and we just need to solidify as a group. I know this will happen because we play at Petco. We fans can get loud and roudy and take the game seriously (people doing the wave notwithstanding). WE, THE FANS, can make this moment, this congealing happen. All it takes is that one fan cheering at the right time that has the effect on that one play, that one run, that one win. We will come together. And then all will be right in the world. Who's ready to make this happen?
btw, I miss linebrink. That KT is something else but he is no AJ Smith (Chargers GM.) I'll blog more on that later.
