Peavy's excuses

Am I the only one who has noticed that Jake Peavy almost always has an excuse after a poor start.  Last year was the worst; after every game in which he blew up there would be a post game interview in which he would say "i dont like to make excuses but....(insert something about his shoulder, the weather, an illness, etc)".  For example, after his outing in Washington he claims that he didnt have his stuff because he didnt get a good nights sleep, sleeping from 4am to 2pm in the afternoon. He always says he hates making excuses and then goes ahead and makes one. Just one time i want to hear him say "i sucked today, and i was off, no excuses".

then again...jake peavy is just THAT good that maybe he always has a reason why he pitches poorly the rare time he does. I dont really know why I am complaining considering he is having the season of a lifetime and is my favorite Padre, but just curious if anyone else noticed his reliance on excuses.

you don't want to get on Jake's bad side........

The Yankees
Tried to make the greatest baseball player alive, by cultivating the DNA from Babe Ruth, Joe Dimaggio, Mikey Mantle, Lou Gerhig and Rickey Henderson.  After creating this being, they nourished him with nothing but the meat from 1 year old black rhinos, California Condor's eggs and the juice from purple apples.  They invested millions of dollars in scientist, instructors, and trainiers.  This ballplayer is not Jake Peavy because Jake Peavy struck this man out on a slider, permanently seperating arm from body and destroing the fabric of his soul.

I prefer he tell us the excuse
instead of us having to guess that he has a broken rib.  Remember when he never told us anything and you just wondered why sometimes he sucked and sometimes he was awesome.

What I really want to know is what he was doing up at 4am on his birthday.  Must have been quite a party.

Apparently
the team's flight didn't get in until 3am.  So what I want to know is why he didn't fly ahead of the team?

would you rather
celebrate your birthday alone in DC or with all of your buddies and teammates in Pittsburgh...

thats why he didnt fly a day ahead

although i read a quote that said next time when given the option to fly ahead he will take it

threepeat?(never thought id be able to say that about the padres!)

its just a matter of
whether or not hes just making an excuse so he doesnt look bad, or whether that excuse is legitimate. if he has a legitimate reason why he cant pitch well that night, why should he even be out there pitching?

although a jake peavy with a sickness or some sort of problem is still better then most of the pitchers out there, so i guess I just answered my own question

threepeat?(never thought id be able to say that about the padres!)

Thats what I was going to say
Jake was not his best on Friday but he was still better than many many others.

Give him a break, he is amazing 99% of the time. Thats too much pressure for anyone to take. One little mistake and the guy gets bashed. Thats not fair.

Ya know, hes my favorite too.

Excuses are for the benefit of the fans, I think
He probably gives them so the fans won't worry.  If he has a simple excuse like that, fans can't just point to that and write off the outing as just an aberration.  If he has to say, "eh, it was just one of those days", then the fans have to worry about it  happening again, and bloggers go off and write posts like, "is Jake Peavy a bust?"

Also, keep in mind the outing was 7 IP, 3 ER, 7 K's.  There really wasn't much to need to make excuses about.

Cheap shot.
Khalil's was well thought out and not some knee jerk reaction. Gimme a break.

Sorry about that
I just added it in as a last minute joke, definitely did not mean it as a shot at you.  Yours was not a knee jerk reaction and you did present evidence to back it up.

I'm just sensitive...
...cuz I made a bad decision supporting a trade for Elijah Dukes. It's all good.

Hey, no problem
I was right there with you supporting trading for Dukes.  Maybe we could go slightly less edgy and advocate trading for Lastings Milledge.  I hear he only raps about abusing women

He could rap with Khalil.
They could be like the Padre version of Kid n' Play.
