Bochy the All-Star

So Bruce Bochy was picked as a coach for the NL All-Star team. He was selected along with Willie Randolph of the Mets.

This must be based on his 2006 managerial experience with the Pads and can not reflect the 11.5 back Giants.

La Russa gets to manage the All-Star team and select the coaches because his St. Louis Cardinals won the NL pennant en route to winning the World Series last season. The All-Star skipper often asks the manager of the team hosting the game to be a coach.

Almost always a courtesy

I know there's a story that I just read where when Tony LaRussa was first managing the White Sox and the game was at Comiskey, whoever the old man managing the AL team that year was, did NOT invite LaRussa because they all hated his "new fangled methods." Can't recall who the other manager was - it was just in SI a couple weeks back, though.
