My top ten favorite current Padres

I've been really slammed with work over the last week or so and I'm finishing up my final paper for school, so I haven't been able to experience many games. I'm not sure what's happening in the world of the Padres. Regardless, I'm going to tell you who my top ten favorite current Padres are. Keep in mind, this has nothing to do with anything and I'll only have a vague idea of what's happening in the world of the Padres until I get this draft turned in tonight.

  1. Adrian Gonzalez

  2. Jake Peavy

  3. Cla Meredith

  4. Khalil Greene

  5. Brian Giles

  6. Trevor Hoffman

  7. Kevin Cameron

  8. Jose Cruz Jr.

  9. Heath Bell

  10. Marcus Giles

can't argue
With the top 3.  I might bump Peavy to 1 because he's out of his mind.

Because if Mike Cameron is in your top ten then we have a problem.

Or Kirk Cameron
Not a Padre, but a better hitter.

Kirk Cameron
I liked Growing Pains and all, but Kirk Cameron has made me nervous since he became religious. Not that I'm knocking religion. I just get creeped out when strangers walk up to me and ask if I want to maybe go hang out with some of their buddies at the beach for some volleyball and then bible study afterwards.

Or even worse, when I'm at McDonald's and somebody behind me starts telling me about how they used to smoke drano laced with gingko biloba before going to have sex with farm animals. Then they look right at me and say, "You can be saved too".

Sorry dude. I may have my vices, but you were on a whole other level and I'm just gonna order my Big Mac and fries thankyouverymuch.

ha
It's funny what activities always seem to go together.  Maybe some people would be more succesful switch things up a bit.

Such as: You want to me to smoke some drano and play beach volleyball with you?  Okay, I'm listening....you've got my attention.

have you ever
seen that creepy religious show Kirk Cameron did where he goes up to random people on the street and tries to save them and tell them they are going to hell if they dont do anything about their lives? Drunk people on the Vegas strip were like "OH look its the growing pains guy!!!" then he would just blast them and they would be like "uhhh huh?".
threepeat?(never thought id be able to say that about the padres!)

  3.  Cla Meredith
  4.  Jake Peavy
  5.  Trevor Hoffman

with only seeing a limited number of games in 2007
  1. Adrian Gonzalez
  2. Cla Meredith
  3. Josh Bard
  4. Trevor Hoffman
  5. Jake Peavy
  6. Chris Young
  7. Scott Linebrink
  8. Jose Cruz Jr.
  9. Khalil Greene
  10. Mike Cameron
i was lucky enough to catch a couple of Padres games while in san diego last week (for the first time in a long time) and WOW.  i left when Gonzalez was getting really good, but the guy is 5 times better than he was at this point last year.  i saw an at-bat against the D-Backs (i think Randy Johnson was pitching) and i could just see that he was waiting for a pitch to crush, then he absolutely destroyed one opposite field!

side note: if barfield was still on the team, he'd be somewhere in my top 3.  i loved that guy.

My top 10
In no particular order
  1. Hoffy
  2. The Claw
  3. Peavy
  4. A-Go
  5. Josh Bard
  6. B. Giles
  7. Mike Cameron
  8. Scientific Calculator
  9. Boomer
  10. The Blummer
Keep in mind that my list is really only partially based on on-field performance. Also, M. Giles would have made my top 10 except he refused to give me an autograph at spring training, saying he was signing for "kids only". I should have told him that my girlfriend has to tell me to stop acting like a 5 year old almost every day.

wait a minute
I thought ron mexico's post was sarcastic.  aside from linebrink (and arguably--very arguably--a couple others), those are some pretty ineffective padres.  no?

by TheGrandHatching on May 1, 2007 12:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not so fast!
This top ten list is hitting for a combined average of .107

Sarcasm
Yes, it was.
and I did mean to include Linebrink, never liked him, NEVER!  I wish the Ensberg deal would have gone through.

Putting Mike Cameron (or Kirk Cameron) on the list was a little mean.  Both try very hard, put in their time and brought joy to my life.  You shouldn't discount them just because one has a batting slump that could be caused by the pressure of contract negotiations, or the other has extremly good intentions of trying to help people make them seem like a weirdo.

Sean Burroughs
That fat kid is a padre forever.  We should retire his number...just like Garvey.

BTW
The reason we are cursed is because we have retired TWO Dodgers numbers.  Robinson is understandable (and MLB requires it, rightfully so), but GARVEY????

Can we get the next batch of Gaslamp shirts with Garvey's numbered shadowed?

by Ron Mexico on May 1, 2007 12:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

good ol sean...
ill always like him because his sister goes to college with me and one time he came up and spent the night in the dorms.  He didnt make it out after drinking tons of Jack Daniels and passing out.  But still, a major league player spending the night in the dorms, thats great.
threepeat?(never thought id be able to say that about the padres!)

That does it
After that story, Sean has just passed Dick Trickle as my all-time favorite athelete.

Mike Cameron
Are you people on drugs? Mike Cameron in your top 10? He's stinking it up at the plate and in the field. I'm way over Mike Cameron. I can appreciate that you like a guy, that he gives 100%, but he's been terrible this year. Are you hanging onto old glory?

After reading thru this thread
I refuse to believe that Tim Sullivan ever visits here.  There's just no reason.

I don't blame people for their favorites
How bout a little bit of loyalty? If I'm a fan of somebody, I'm with them even if they do slump. If it were any other way, I wouldn't still be a Padres fan. I'd root for somebody easy.

Being a non-fairweather Padres fan takes work.

by Dex on May 1, 2007 11:51 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

In that case
I'll review my top ten and I maybe give poor ol' dougie another chance.
btw  what do you have against fairweather?

by ABY on May 1, 2007 12:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Word.
I can't put my finger on it, but for some reason, even though he sucks and is no longer a padre, Sean Burroughs is still one of my favorites.

OK... Now that's crazy
I mean, Mike Cameron is one thing, but old Chop-Chop is taking it to another level.

I'm a new Padres fan
just moved to SD last September. I have no Padres baggage, no history with players from previous teams. I just call 'em like I see 'em. Kouz needs more time to be successful, and no doubt he will, eventually. Should he continue to slump into June, spending a few weeks in AAA might help him find his swing again and regain his confidence. Cameron is another story. He is a veteran (34 years old) who is a career .250 hitter. Even last year he hit only .268, and he shows no signs of the 22 home runs he hit last year. He is an aging veteran whose best playing days are in the past, even if he turns it around this year, and plays to an average season of his. This team is good, but we WILL NOT go to the playoffs with the offense we are getting from 3B and CF (maybe one, but not both). I'd give Cameron another 150 AB's (probably mid june), and if he hasn't turned it around, cut him loose.

Does that sound too harsh?

by RBS on May 1, 2007 1:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Catches
2 foul balls and suddenly he's an expert!!

by ABY on May 1, 2007 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

an expert, eh?
All I know that Cameron's .081 average or whatever it is and his 0 home runs aren't getting the job done. what's more is that his misplayed a number of balls in center that have lead to runs scored by the opposing team.....

I do have to admit
that I am a new Padre fan and have always kinda liked Cameron from his Seattle and NY days. Is Cameron that reviled?

Just bad timing with his slump
At the end of last season, he would have been on most of the lists
