So an article on padres.com today said that Black is looking more and more like he is gonna put Marcus in the leadoff spot when the season starts.
("He looks good at the top of the order," Black said. "... He's got the ability to do a lot of things leading off. He can hit a homer, he can hit a double, he can steal a base if he gets on. I don't think we're asking him to come out of his game."
Giles batted leadoff last season with the Braves and hit .262 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs, though some felt he was miscast in that role.
"He's swinging the bat really well ... he's having quality at-bat after quality at-bat," Black said. "We felt as we construct our lineup that he might be the best option" )
This is really interesting because I remember in one of the first video interviews of spring Marcus said that he was glad that he didn't have to be in the leadoff spot and that last year it just screwed him up offensively. He seemed really excited to be hitting 2nd before brian.... then this news started coming out that Black likes Marcus at leadoff, and since I have heard interviews where he says "if thats what the team needs me to do, i will do it"....
he doesn't seem to happy about the situation
there was all this talk of sledge leading off, I wonder why that all changed?
