OPEN THREAD: You really are a diehard if you are listening to spring training games

[editor's note, by Dex] AHEM... Consider this an open thread :)

That is the text message I just received from guy the who sits next to me here at work. Yes, I am listening to the game online! Yes, I am wondering why we don't have an open thread for the game! I saw on the A's blog that there were over 300 comments on their first spring training game thread. 300! Yes, I know I am completely insane. Anyone else with me? Game is tied 2-2. PMac hit a HR. CY gave up a 2run HR in the 1st then settled down.

So then...
While I open this thing up. Where we at? What's the situation? Anything crazy happen yet?

Bottom of the 6th I believe
Nothing crazy. Getting used to the new guy in the booth - ok so far. B. Giles had an rbi double. Mac had the solo HR. Nothing much else that I can remember!

Wrong Giles...
It was Marcus with the double. He's 2 for 3. Sorry, Christina...we're having a rough patch. LOL.

Crap!!
Well, I had to turn the sound down during that inning because I got a phone call. Had a 50/50 shot of getting that one!

What we've learned so far...
After five and a half innings of spring training baseball we know this about the 2007 San Diego Padres.

Chris Young was a one season wonder. (His ERA is 9.00)

Marcus Giles will the MLB Comeback Player of the Year. (He's batting .667)

Paul McNulty will be the starting LF. (He's 2 -2 with an RBI, a run scored and an outfield assist. He threw a Mariner out at the plate.)

Adrian Gonzalez is livid with management. (He's 0-3 with 2 runners left on base.)

Adam Shabala will replace Mike Cameron in CF. (He's 1-1 with a run scored and a walk.)

Pretty much what we had all anticipated from this upcoming season.

Chris Young
If anything we learned today is that he will win the CY young award next year. Remember the spring training he had last year? Terrible.

Last Spring....
S4ilorguy, you're totally right. He was horrible last spring...and so was Clay.

Remember Brazelton?
He was lights out last ST!
I was at the game when he completely fell apart too......

Funny you bring up Dewon....
Look at this from the Royals box score today:

Kansas City IP H R ER BB SO HR  ERA
Meche      3.0 2 0 0  1  0   0  0.00
Brazelton  2.0 4 3 3  2  0   0 13.50

Those are
some painfully familiar stats!

Is it just me
Or does our new broadcaster Andy Masur sound a bit like Gary Sinise from CSI NY?? I could be WAY off but that's what I hear....

I have no idea about that
but the new guy sounds alright to me. Flan seemed to take a long time to get the hang of it, but Masur sounded pretty good straight away.

Yep
Much smoother than Flan right away. Have to admit that once it was mentioned, I did hear the resemblance to Sinise's voice! It's cool though.

Poor Boch...
The Giants were destroyed 18 - 1 today by the Brewers SPLIT SQUAD. Hopefully a sign of things to come for San Francisco. (Bonds 0-2 with a strikeout.)

oh thanks for that report!
Does my heart good :->

On my way to Alex's first LL game of the season. I'm scorekeeping, pitch counting AND I got roped into being bench coach today and tomorrow! Yikes! At least I can take this Padres victory with me to keep me smiling.

wow, way to go!
jbox that's awesome!  Way to rep the gaslampball at the Padres first series of the season
Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Did anyone...
see that awesome butt kicking that HALF the Brewers gave to the Giants? Best spring training opening. Ever.
