According to scout.com:WGN Radio's Andy Masur has reportedly been given an offer from the San Diego Padres regarding their play-by-play announcing position. Masur sometimes fills in for Pat Hughes and Ron Santo during games, usually the middle innings. Terms of the deal are unknown and Masur is expected to make a final decision on whether to go to the Padres or stay at his role now with WGN Radio.
Since Matty V will probably head to LA as soon as Vinnie hangs 'em up, and ol Jer is headed to retirement -- the Pads are probably going to hire
Masur -- and probably get him at the 'San Diego Discount' since it would be his first full time baseball gig.
I've only heard him the few times I've been in Chicago during the baseball season -- he needs daily work to improve, then I'm sure he'd be more than adequate.
His style is more traditional. He won't belt out opera during his home run call, as one Padres TV voice seems compelled to do, and he won't tell stupid jokes as another TV voice loves to do.
